Bicycle-Related Legislation in CaliforniaAssembly Bill 122 will soon be read by the Transportation Committee in the California State Assembly. The bill will legalize the Safety Stop for bicyclists, allowing cyclists moving at a slow speed to treat certain stop signs as a yield in some situations. Supporters of the bill should send letters of support directly to the Chair of the Committee on Transportation, Assemblymember Laura Friedman.

I just sent a letter of support to my assemblyman, Rob Bonta, who represents Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. Thanks for sending us this information, Nathan.

There's a handy "Track Bill" option near the top of the page that will send email notifications of the progress.

I think there's a drafting error in the bill. Here's the bill text:
I think the new section 22450(c) is a problem. As written, a cyclist at a 4-way stop would have to yield to ALL cross traffic. I think the fix is simple. Just remove the new 22450(c). All we need is this:
Yielding is already covered in CHAPTER 4. Right-of-Way [21800 - 21809] so it's not needed in 22450. Does this sound right? On Wed, Mar 10, 2021 at 2:33 PM Michael Graff <michael.graff@...> wrote:
