Hey FFBC,
I’m not sure if this is the right venue for this type of question but I was curious if there’s interest in a weekday long and high ride. I work an alternative work schedule that usually means I get 1-2 rides on my off days and they are usually Monday-Wednesday. I like to do 60-100 miles and try to get in 6000-8000ft of elevation gain. I’m usually solo and would love to go as a group but I don’t see group rides that fit this niche. I apologize if this is not the correct method of communication for this type of thing and if there’s a better place for it please point me in the right direction. But even if there are just a few interested I’ll be out on Sierra/Felter/Calaveras road anyway if anyone wants in. Thanks gents and ladies, keep spinning.
Best regards,
Ryan

Thursday Morning Coffee Riders,
I'm still working on tomorrow's route.  It will be mostly flat, about 30 miles with a coffee stop at Mollie Stone.

DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles; Elevation: feet;
Terrain: 2,3 Pace: T,M

Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start from the Don Edwards Visitor Center (Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, 1 Marshlands Rd, cross-street Thornton Ave, Fremont) and we head across the Dumbarton Bridge to various destinations.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

Thanks, Mike!  The rider that went to the new Cabrillo Cafe on Monday appreciates the clarification. 😉  See you next Monday. 🚴‍♂️

Hi all,

Those of us that lead the MMRR on Monday’s have noticed that the MMRR route has developed a couple of areas that are not very amenable to bikes due to housing construction. Even when the construction is completed a number of us ride leaders believe that the increased traffic will continue to make these areas a challenge for cyclists. So over the last month or so we have been trying a few changes and feel that we have a safer route for the MMRR. Please see the route below. I have added Nike to the route which is optional.

Also, this last Monday a rider went to the new Cabrillo Cafe (on Stevenson) for the start of the ride which is not the location for the start (on Thornton) which used to be the location of the Cabrillo Cafe. So we have changed the description for the start to make sure there is no confusion.

Meet at the Cabrillo Shopping Center

Thanks,

Donna Luporini Kaplan

Hello FFBC-

This Saturday, Mike Brasseur and I will lead the 1st Saturday of the Month ride.  We will start in downtown Niles and ride out to Alum Rock Park once again, as Calaveras is still closed to traffic.  (The most recent news we have heard about Calaveras is that it will open at the end of September.)

I hope you can join us!

~Donna Kaplan

………………………………………………

Calaveras Clockwise

When:    Sat, July 7, 8:30am – 1:00pm

Where:   Downtown Niles. (If you are driving to the start, please park in the lot that is east of the Train Depot, across Niles Blvd from I Street.)

Description:   Length: 46 miles; Elevation: 2425 feet

Terrain: 3; Pace:

Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start. This is our traditional "1st Saturday of the Month" ride. However, due to the closure of Calaveras Road, we will ride to Alum Rock Park instead. The route will still bring us out into Milpitas and we will still return via a route that stays close to the hills. Bring $$ for a coffee stop at Noah's/Starbucks in Milpitas. Rain or serious threat of rain cancels.

Early start to beat the summer heat! Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start.  We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.

We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.

FFBC Friends,
Thank you to everyone who attended, wish they could have attended and/or contributed towards last week's Ride & Bon Voyage Party for me (aka the Thursday Coffee Ride).  The party was so much fun and I was overwhelmed with all the laughter, well wishes and hugs!  I can guarantee that those bike clubs in Las Vegas don't have a chance of being as friendly, encouraging and fun to ride with as my treasured FFBC has been.  I will miss you all tremendously.  Fortunately, I will still be around for a few more FFBC rides before I leave August 15.

A huge thank you to Lori, my cycling mentor, supporter and friend, who opened up her home to us all, for the Bon Voyage party last week. Lori also coordinated all the party details and recruited lots of helpers: Ken Goldman led the bike ride, Molly Michelfelder, Randy Fewel and Nancy Oh helped with the party set-up at Lori's house, Becky Smith took great photos and posted them on FB, Becky Denevan got the cake, Randy Fewel and Meghan (Denevan) very creatively decorated it, Julie Fuller, I understand, has a present from club members to give to me, and the construction worker/former HS coach volunteered to take the group photo.  If I forgot anyone, and I'm sure I did, please let me know.

Thanks to FFBC, I am a better person in so many ways and I have ton of happy memories from the many rides and special events I've shared with you all.  Thanks again for the fabulous send-off last week.
See you soon!
