Hello Thursday Coffee Riders,

Let's do Ken's route to Starbucks in Milpitas.  Flat (mostly) and fast (well, some faster than others).

I hope to see you tomorrow!

WhenThu, May 17, 9am – 1pm
WhereSprouts Farmers Market, 6399 Jarvis Ave, Newark, CA 94560, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles
Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M

Meet at 9:00 for a 9:15 start.  Wear a FFBC club jersey and let's stay close to home. We will meet at Sprouts located in the former Raley's Shopping Center (6399 Jarvis Ave, Newark).

We will mainly stay in Fremont but ride through Newark and sometimes Union City and Milpitas on occasion. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

It seems everyone has been getting emails about their membership lapsing. I apologize. That should not be happening and I’m not sure why it is. Gremlins are on the loose again.

So please ignore for now.

I’ll be looking into it however I’ll be out of town next week, and I may not get it resolved before I go. So continue to ignore it until I give further updates.

Again I apologize for the annoyance.

Thanks,

Bob

Centripedal (3636 Thornton Ave, Fremont) has given permission for us to park in their lot and we can also park along Moraine Ave/Bonde Way.  We will meet at the first Energizer Station hosted by Centripedal at the ACE Fremont Train Station (37260 Fremont Blvd) at 7:30AM and be ready to roll at 7:45AM.  To access the train station from Bonde Way use the shortcut through the parking lot where there is an opening in the fence to the train station near Darleen's Dog Grooming.

Late arrivals can meet us along the route!

We will ride to the start of the City of Fremont Ride which meets at 8:00AM and rolls at 8:15AM.  We will join their ride which stops at the Energizer stations hosted by Kaiser Permanente, Washington Hospital (BART West Entrance) and City of Fremont/REI (BART East Entrance).  We won't dally at these BART stations because we have somewhere to go.  We will try to make it to the Energizer Station hosted by Tesla in south Fremont.

If we don't make it to Tesla before they close at 9:30AM we will head to Panera if we need coffee, otherwise we will wait for coffee at Suju's at the end. There is an option to take a shortcut to save 5 miles.

We sure hope you can join us!

Join us on Tuesday, May 8th for our May club meeting. We will have a presentation on a bicycle tour to Vietnam. I'm eager to find out how it was to cycle in Vietnam. I would have thought that there weren't the greatest roads there. Also, how were the drivers? I guess I'll have to wait until next week to find out!

For reference, the next meetings will be:
  • August: Dinner and a movie! Come and we'll watch the film "Le Ride," a contemporary film that retraces the route of the 1928 Tour de France.
  • September: Matt Bomberg, Senior Traffic Engineer for the City of Fremont.

As always, the meeting will be held at:

Fremont Adult School, Room N6 (all the way in the back, in the back row of buildings)
4700 Calaveras Ave,
Fremont, CA 94538

Hope to see you there!

Hello Thursday Morning Coffee Riders,
We are going on a trip!  Mark you calendars for Treasure Island on the last Thursday in May.  We've added a coffee stop on Treasure Island so we can relax and enjoy the view (even if it is just a view of the fog - thanks Ken) as long as the weather is decent.  Shiba Ramen in the Public Market is yummy and the new Mexican place should be open now too.
Hope you can join us.

WhereFremont BART Station, Fremont, CA 94536, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 20 miles; Elevation: 650 feet; Terrain: 2,3 Pace: T,M Join us as we search for adventure on Treasure Island! The first part of our adventure will be taking all the bikes on BART; please spread out into different cars and don't forget your Clipper Card if you have one. There are two Richmond bound trains from Fremont, the first leaves at 9:00AM and the second at 9:15AM. Ken will be on the first train that arrives at Ashby Station at 9:46AM and I will be on the second arriving at 10:01AM. Everyone will gather at the Ashby BART station in Berkeley, 10:00AM on the west side (toward the parking lot), rolling about 10:15AM. If anyone wants to drive, please park near the Ashby BART station and join us there or meet us ACROSS THE STREET from IKEA at the trailhead, which is well marked and very obvious. We will be coming down Shellmound St. and turning onto the trail about 10:30-10:40. It will be too congested to sign people in right there, so we will do that at the first regroup at the porta-potties before we climb the bridge. At the top of the bridge, there is a beautiful new vista point (mile 7.2, porta-potties) where we will have a long regroup and take some pictures. There is a short pitchy part up to the top of Yerba Buena before descending down onto Treasure Island. We will ride around Treasure Island, take pictures and hopefully stop for a quick cup of coffee and enjoy the view of San Francisco. After coffee we will climb back up to Yerba Buena, descend the Bay Bridge and lunch at the Public Market in Emeryville.(http://publicmarketemeryville.com/directory/) and then take BART home from the Ashby Station. Lunch probably won't be until 12:30PM or 1:00PM. This is a leisurely ride with lots of stopping to look at the sights and take pictures. We will stay together, no route sheet will be provided but you can print the ridewithgps route sheet we will send out via email and Dale will be sweeping with his array (hoard) of GPSes (and yes, I had to look up the plural of GPS). DescriptionLength: 34 miles

Meet at 9:00 for a 9:15 start.  We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Alviso Adobe in Milpitas.

We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.
