Wait and See - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello,
The forecast at the moment is for rain, however let's wait and see what happens overnight.  I will send out an email by 7AM tomorrow.  If it is canceled, let's get together for Valentine's Day anyway - Mission Coffee at 9:30.

New Start Location!  Meet at 9:30AM for an 9:45AM start from the parking lot at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (at the end of Marshlands Road) and we will head across the bridge to various destinations.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

Mid-Week Morning Ride 2/13/19 Canceled

Al Quintana

Well, it looks as if the wet, wild, windy weather has hit the west coast, so we needn't worry about whether or not we can ride on Wednesday this week.

Therefore, the Mid-Week Morning Ride for tomorrow is canceled, and the ride now becomes a Show and Go. Please be careful if you go out to ride.

We have missed several LAP/PRS rides, including PRS 5 up Old La Honda.  Tomorrow we'll do a shorter version of 36 miles with 2744' of climbing.  Coffee/snacks will be at the Sharon Park Starbucks.

Here's the route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29304799.  The Ride with GPS route does not have all the regroups so please print and bring the route sheet that's attached to this post.

A significant chance of rain cancels. If the ride is cancelled, you'll see a post by 7 a.m. at https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics.  No post means the ride is on.

PRS Schedule Change

Barry

Because today's ride has been cancelled, we have decided that next week's ride, PRS 7, will be Corral Hollow instead of Grant Ranch.  Given all the missed rides, Corral Hollow provides a better progression to PRS 8, Del Valle, and it gives us an opportunity to ride some memorable roads that we don't usually do.  Grant Ranch is a beautiful ride so hopefully we can do it later this year.

So hold onto those cue sheets!

Route Sheet LAP 6

Lori Sommer

Good Morning,

More storms are headed our way so Sunday's forecast is unsettled.  Hopefully the ride will go on as planned and Ken will send out an email by 7AM Sunday.  I will be unable to attend this Sunday's ride so we will be looking to deputize someone to sweep up the rascals and partiers at the back of the group.  If this ride is canceled, we've decided we will reorganize the rides because with so much rain, it is hard to be ready for the increases in mileage and elevation gain.  But more on that if and when the time comes.

Attached please find and print the route sheet for LAP 6, Dublin, Schaefer, Bollinger.  This is a really nice ride!.  We offer alternatives to reduce mileage and climbing.  Bring some snacks as the coffee stop is at mile 36.

We will start at Bernal Community Park and meet at the restrooms. Along the way we will sample the long, low grade of Dublin Blvd, the short but steep grind up Schaefer Ranch Rd and the scenic never-ending Bollinger Canyon. After all the climbing is done at mile 36, we will stop for a break in San Ramon. There are options - skip Bollinger and reduce your route by 11 miles, skip another set of hills and go directly to coffee (cut off another 5 miles). Or, do them both! But it is a training ride, try them all! https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29051844 PDF versions of our Excel route sheets will be sent out via email to FFBC’s https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics a few days before each ride. We ask that you print and bring it to the ride. The link to the route on ridewithgps.com is available for downloading but any route sheet generated from the link is for information only and does not have listed regroups. We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph). No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. PRS 6 Corral Hollow

Barry

The weather forecasts keep shifting for Sunday, but it looks like we have a good chance of riding.  I will be leading the M-paced group, and the M+ riders will draft their own leader at the start of the ride.  I'll bring sign-in sheets for both groups.

On Sunday after 7 a.m., be sure to check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics for a cancellation or update. No post means the ride is on.

Please print and bring the attached cue sheet.  The RideWithGPS link's cue sheet does not have all the regroups.

Starting this week we'll be doing a series of six metric centuries while ramping up our climbing from 2750' to nearly 5000'.  Please be prepared for safe, healthy and successful rides by bringing two bottles of water, plenty of snacks, two spare tubes, a working pump, etc.

Sleep in or have another cup of coffee!  We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.

We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.
