“The Sunday Social”

Meet at 9:00 for a 9:15 start. Please join us on this monthly “Sunday Social”. This casual, social ride is always fun and offers everyone the chance to meet other cyclists. Bring your cycling friends along and help us introduce newcomers and guests to the club. Don’t forget $$ for a coffee/snack stop. If you have a club jersey or jacket, this is a great time to wear it.

Rain or significant chance of rain cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email means the ride is on).

This ride currently lacks a ride leader.  If no one volunteers, it will be a Show & Go.  Experienced riders, please bring a sign-in sheet and incident reporting form.

CCRS ride cancelled for today

Today’s scheduled CCRS ride is cancelled due to rain forecast all morning. The ride is now a show and go. If you ride take extra care on the slippy roads.

Weather forecasters are predicting rain on Saturday starting at 5:00am and not ending until after 2:00pm, therefore we are cancelling the Calaveras Clockwise, M pace, ride.

CCRS #8 Portola Loop + Alpine on Saturday

Vanessa McDonnell

This Saturday is our 8th ride in the Cinderella Conditioning Ride Series. It’s been a fun series so far and assuming the weather cooperates this Saturday’s ride should be a really nice one. Join Colin and me for a jaunt at a T/M pace across the bay for a climb up scenic Alpine road followed by a Portola loop and then back to Fremont. Total mileage is ~40 miles with ~2,000’ elevation gain. Note RideWithGPS gives a figure of 2,206’ elevation gain but I think it’s really only ~2,000’ (but it may feel like 2,206’!). Our coffee stop will be at Robert’s Market after the climb up Alpine.

Details of the ride are on the FFBC calendar. Please use the cue sheet attached to this email rather than the one attached to the ride calendar. I’ve made a few minor changes and updated the contact phone numbers at the bottom of the cue sheet.

Finally, back to the weather - Weather Underground currently shows a 70% chance of rain @8am on Saturday in Menlo Park. Since weather forecasts are frequently wrong we’ll take a wait and see approach before cancelling the ride. Expect an email from Colin or me by 7am on Saturday morning if the ride has been cancelled. No email means the ride is on.

PRS #10 Peninsula Hills & Shoreline

Barry

PRS Riders,

Don't forget to switch to Daylight Savings Time!

We have a spectacular Peninsula ride planned for Sunday.  But being the Peninsula, the route is complicated.  So you know what to expect and what to do if you get disconnected from the group, please read the calendar posting's text, pasted below, and take a good look at the route and cue sheet (attached).

See you Sunday.

Barry & Donna

PRS #10: Peninsula Hills & Shoreline
Sunday, March 88:30am – 3:30pm
DescriptioLength: 68.5 miles; Elevation: 4982 feet
Terrain: 4; Pace: M, M+

Meet at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge at 8:30 am for an 8:45 am start.

Think of this as three wonderful Peninsula rides in one!  That's three rides worth of complexity (with a two-sided cue sheet!), but we think you'll find it to be a spectacular ride overall.  The three rides are:
1. Belmont Hills:  After crossing the Dumbarton Bridge, we will make our way to Canada Road and ride north to the Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir.  We'll take the Ralston bike bridge over the freeway and climb Hallmark Dr and Crestview Dr, enjoying views of the reservoirs and bay.  After a LONG, STEEP descent (be careful!), we will make our way our first rest stop at Prima Deli/Summit Coffee.  Don't linger too long!
2. Los Altos Hills:  After our stop, we will climb back up the hill via Woodside Rd and go south to to enjoy a beautiful, hilly loop on Elena, Natoma, Altamont and Moody Roads.
3. Shoreline:  Finally we will make our way to scenic Shoreline Park for a rest stop at your choice of Michael's at Shoreline by the golf course or Shoreline Lake American Bistro before heading back via nice, flat bike paths and the Dumbarton Bridge.

Please review the route it before the ride.  You will want your cue sheet and GPS route.  If you go off course, text the ride leaders and proceed to the next major regroup:  Prima Deli/Summit Coffee, Arastradero Preserve, Shoreline.

The descents on Crestview and Altamont are very steep.  Make sure your brakes are in good, working condition, and please descend conservatively.

The cue sheet is attached to this calendar event.  Please print and bring your own copy.

The route is changed slightly from last year after coffee.  Similar to last year, we do take Walnut Ave on the way back to the start at Fremont BART and we can try the newly completed raised bike lanes.  Then you can have an opinion at the FFBC Club Meeting next Tuesday (if you don't have one already).

Save the Date/Reminder - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello,

Two things:
Save the date - Thursday, March 19.   I waited to post a ride for that day thinking that our friend, Cindy Maxwell, would be joining us and wanted to pick a route she was comfortable with.  Alas, I'm disappointed to find her plans will likely be canceled.  Instead we will do an amazing ride that we previewed yesterday: Ken's Two Bridges - Golden Gate and Richmond San Rafael.  I have to say it was the best ride I've done in years.  So much FUN! More details will be posted on the calendar as soon as we get the details together. Put it on your schedule now so you don't have FOMO - fear of missing out.

Tomorrow we are supposed to do Alum Rock...but I could be persuaded to go up to Ed Levin and/or Sandy Wool with faster riders having a option to do The Wall if riders want a change of scenery.  See you tomorrow, 9:30 at REI.

DescriptionLength: 34 miles Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.  We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.  We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.  Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.  Lori Sommer: lorimsommer@..., 510-693-8624

Route - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello Coffee Riders,

I've had a request for a coffee stop at Panama Red for tomorrow.  The planned route is 30miles and about 1,000' which takes us from Sunol, up Foothill and Pleasanton Sunol-Road, through Ruby Hills and into "Tuscany".  If we are not allowed access through Ruby Hills, we can continue to Vallecitos and access "Tuscany" via E. Vineyard then do an out and back. The route sheet for the planned route is attached.

I hope to see you tomorrow for a sunny ride.

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride - Sunol Start
WhenThu, 27 February, 09:30 – 13:30
WhereSunol Train Station (map)
DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles
Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M

This week the route starts from the gravel lot across from the Sunol Train Station.

There are lots of places we can go and sometimes a portion of the climbing is optional and mileage can be reduced. Our favorite destinations include the Corner Bakery or Peet's via Kilkare, the water tower and Bernal Bump or maybe out to Panama Red Coffee in Livermore by way of Sycamore Grove/Holdener Park or the climbs out by Signal Hill and the fun descent on Croak Road with lunch at Panera in Livermore. Another favorite is Denica's in Dublin via Windemere. Bring $ for coffee or lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call me.
