Date

Portola Loop CW this Sat., 7/20 - M Pace

mbrasseur00

We will have the Portola Loop CW ride this Saturday. The route has been changed slightly.  First, since the Willow Road/101 overpass is finished and striped with very nice bike lanes, we will not take the pedestrian bridge over 101 but will stay on Willow Rd in both directions. We will still stop at Burgess Park. Second, we will not stop at Robert’s Market on Alpine but continue on up Alpine Road past Portola Rd (stay on Alpine) to make a right on Willowbrook Dr and then take Willowbrook back to Portola Rd. Make a left onto Portola Rd and have our coffee break in Sharon Park Shopping Center at Woodside Bakery and Cafe or nearby Starbucks (both to the right of Safeway). Then return as usual to Willow Rd and over the bridge to Don Edwards Visitor center.

Meet at Sprouts parking lot in Newark at 8:30am with wheels rolling at 8:45am.

M Pace
~42 miles with ~1600 ft elevation

Please print the route sheet below for the ride.

Hope to see you there.

Mike and Louis

Hi Colin,

Thank you for registering for this year's ride.

Would you be willing to lead a training ride for us in August or September?  If so, what would be the maximum number of riders? Miles? Route? We'd be able to send a dedicated Fremont Freewheelers Bike Club e-blast to our contacts and advertise your club in addition to the training ride. Let me know what you think.

Warmly,

I was just informed that the Ls Altos Wine and Arts Festival is this Saturday the 13th. If I remember correctly we had a ride last year that also coincided with this festival and did not have any issues. Just need to be more careful as we are entering Los Altos on Main Street on our way to Le Boulanger as the road is closed to street traffic. So we will be extra careful and still enjoy the ride and Los Altos.

Cheers,
Mike

Description
Length: 25-35 miles; Elevation: feet;

Meet at 8:30AM for an 8:45AM start from the parking lot at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (at the end of Marshlands Road) and we will head across the bridge to various destinations.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

Looking for four volunteers to serve as Parking / Flag Marshals for Calaveras Time Trial, Saturday, July 13 in the morning

West Kurihara

Fellow Club members,

The Race Team is sponsoring and running an Individual Time Trial even this Saturday on Calaveras Road.  The Time trial course is 10 miles long and starts just to the South of the I680 Exit/Entrance on Calaveras.  The turn around point is about 1 mile past the Geary Road intersection.

We have need of two additional parking marshals at Sunol School from about 7am to 9:30am.  Duties are fairly simple and low stress.  One person will stand at the parking lot entrance with a vest and flag to wave participants into the parking lot or direct them to street parking.  The 2nd person will assist and also answer any questions (where is registration?, where are the portapoties, where is the course,)

As this is a time trial, people will arrive at times spread out according to their start times and there will not be a mad rush of people.

The 2nd place for two marshals is along Calaveras Rd at the DiSilva Quarry Entrances.  Duties there will be to look out for any gravel trucks exiting the Quarry to turn on to Calaveras and warn the driver if a cyclist is coming from either direction.  The time for this position is from 7:50am (first rider is off at 8:01 sharp) to no later than 10:30am.

If you have the time and interest in volunteering, please contact me directly.

Thanks all,

Mahalo

A charity bike ride to support
Meals on Wheels Programs in Alameda County

Registration is now open for our 10th Annual Wheels for Meals Ride which will be back at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park on Saturday, October 26.

Cycle through the Livermore Valley wine country to help raise funds needed to guarantee the delivery of nutritious meals to homebound seniors.

Early bird registration is available now through August 19:

  • 15-Mile Registration: $55 or $30 for kids 14 and under
  • 35-Mile Registration: $75
  • 70-Mile Registration: $85

Use promo code LIBERTY for 20% off your registration. Valid now through Sunday, July 7 at 11:30 pm.

The fundraising incentive prizes and jersey design will be released soon.

Unfortunately, over the last several years, our ridership numbers have been on a steep decline. Our 10th anniversary ride may very well be our last if we don't meet our goal of having at least 600 riders this year on October 26.

You can help us keep the Wheels for Meals Ride alive by registering for the ride and also participating in peer-to-peer fundraising. Please encourage friends and family to join the fun!

The route is longer, so we will be getting back later. You may return on your own at any time! Bring a spare tube, water, snacks and money for a coffee and snack stop.

A significant chance of rain, heat, or poor air quality cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to the https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email, means the ride is on).
