Cancelled - Thursday Morning Donut Ride

Robert Tashjian

Surprise, surprise, the Thursday Morning Donut Ride is cancelled due to tomorrow’s forecast of large amounts of wet, drippy stuff falling from the sky. Per club rules the ride becomes a show and go. if you do decide to ride (seriously?!?), please be careful!

On the positive side, so far it does look like we will be able to shower this summer.

Steve,

I didn't try until I saw your message.  I attached the tcx file.  The route is not complicated, if you still have problems don't worry about it.

Start is at the isherwood staging area. Coffee is at the Starbucks in McCarthy Ranch.

I'll try to hang with you.  Al Rendon is joining us as well.

Recovering Riders,

Let’s work off a bit of Christmas with a ride to Starbucks McCarthy Ranch. We’ll meet at 8:30 across from the Isherwood Staging Area parking lot for an 8:45 roll. Usual pickup/regroups at Bayliss/Paseo and Grimmer/Paseo. The weather looks like it will be quite agreeable, if a bit on the cool side. Hope to see you tomorrow.

One change to the posted route: We’ll turn off Central onto Filbert, then Enterprise to Willow, with a bathroom break at the Ash Street Park. Updated route here:

Just a reminder; tomorrows TMCR starts at the Sprouts Plaza instead of inland.
Also we did not post an official PDF on the website because it is not a ride we are putting into the club library.
However Ken did put together a pdf which is attached below.  I will also bring a couple of copies to hand out.
Thanks to Ken and see you at 9:30 Thursday.

This Thursday/Friday: Christmas Lights/Reindeer ride

Vijai Soori

Dear Freewheelers,
Please join me this Thursday the 22nd for a Christmas Lights tour at Willow Glen in San Jose. Large swaths of the neighborhood in Willow Glen come together every year in coordinated fashion to deck up their homes, yard and streets with Christmas decor and lights that’s a pretty sight to see. This will be a fun ride at a very slow pace meant to enjoy, stop, take pictures and perhaps enjoy a warm drink at the end.

We’ll do a similar ride in Fremont on Friday the 23rd in the Northgate/Ardenwood area with the ride starting at the Beard Staging area on the Alameda Creek trail.

The ride details are on the FFBC calendar as well as the FFBC meetup group if you are looking for more information. Most importantly, these are after dark rides starting at 6:30 PM so bike lights and Helmets are a must. Besides, consider adding some fun to the rides by decorating them with lights if you can!

8 speed Road bike Shifter

Karanbir Dhillon

My son Gurveer who is 11 started Road & Track Racing this year and had a blast along with me learning with him and doing the USAC NCNCA Officiating in the Bike races. He has done few of the FFBC rides along with me and the great group encouraging along with TNT.

He got a used Road Bike and with Juniors they need to have proper junior gearing 😞 a challenge. Unfortunately his Rear Shifter Ultegra 8 speed is not shifting properly it just goes in one direction, and the bike shop unable to fix it. If you happen to have a 8 speed shifter like Ultegra/105 could you please let me know. Its a hard time getting this part.

One option for me is to get a 11 speed shifter, derauiler, etc for him but that means I need to upgrade his rear wheel too as current one does not take a 11 speed cassette.

USA Cycling most likely is taking away the Junior Gearing restrictions for the next year.

Need to get him ready for his next year of racing.

He is 5 ft tall now so might even look for a road bike for him challenge is he is growing fast, and asking me Dad can I get another bike Gravel Bike etc.

Thanks,
Karan
