TMCR - Whisky Hill Loop

Lori Sommer

Hello,
The good news is it is going to be a fun ride with yummy pastries at Woodside Bakery!  The better news is that we won't actually be doing the Dumbarton Twice as we finish.  Thanks to Ken for catching the erroneous dot that added a few miles.  The ride is only 28.4 miles, not 33.  I've corrected the calendar post and the attachment but there is no need to reprint or redownload the ride...I know no one will do the Dumbarton Twice..will they?
See you at 8:30,
Lori

TMCR across the Dumbarton -Whisky Hill Loop
WhenThu, 8 July, 08:30 – 13:00
WhereParking lot at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (at the end of Marshlands Rd (map) (map)
DescriptionLength: 28.4 miles
Elevation: 1,026'
Terrain: 2,3
Pace: T,M

Meet at the parking lot at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (at the end of Marshlands Road) and we will head across the bridge to various destinations.

The specific route for today's ride (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31461941) will be Base of the Dumbarton to Whisky Hill Loop with coffee at Woodside Bakery (Starbucks option). If you want to significantly reduce mileage you can meet us at our first regroup at Burgess Park, which will cut out 16 miles. Another option which eliminates most of the climbing and lots of miles would be to turn directly to coffee as we pass Sharon Park at mile 11.3 then have a leisurely coffee as you wait to go home with us.  If you want to add more miles, ride to the start  from your home or the Don E Visitor Center and if you are familiar with the area, you can skip Whisky Hill and do a Manzanita loop instead.  Please print the route sheet.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch or along the creek with a bit of shade. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee ($) and riders are welcome to head back on their own.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction, rain, poor air quality or the whim of the ride leader may modify or cancel the route. Check here for updates: info@ffbc.groups.io

2nd Saturday of the Month Ride (7/10/21)-Different Route

mbrasseur00

This month Louis and I are leading a different route than the normal 2nd Saturday of the Month ride to Los Altos.

We will lead a ride across the Dumbarton Bridge and up to the beautiful end of Alpine Road and then down to Willowbrook to Portola /Sand Hill Roads with a coffee/snack break at Woodside Bakery in the Sharon Park shopping center before heading back over the Dumbarton Bridge. Bring $$ for snacks/lunch.

The ride is open to all riders that can maintain an M paced ride. No need to pre-sign-in, sign in will be done at the start.  But all riders will be expected to follow all guidelines as lined out in the calendar announcement.

Meet in the Newark Sprouts parking lot at 8:30 am for an 8:45 am start.

your own cue sheet (attached) as ride leaders will not have any copies.

See you Saturday,

Thanks for everyone’s concerns.

Mea culpa for the false alarm. I was pessimistic when my trusty possession was not stored in its usual location. I’m getting senile and am embarrassed. Guess I won’t be leading rides because I’ll get you lost.

Locking my bike in the garage will be standard operating procedure. Have a good holiday weekend.

Cheers,
Colin

Hi All,
If anyone happens to see this bike for sale, please let me know. I was getting it ready to ride tomorrow and noticed it missing today. The spare rear DT Swiss wheel is missing a cassette because I was going to swap out cassettes. Miss-matching wheel rear set with a Industry Nine rear hub and DT Swiss front hub.

Any help to spread the word is appreciated, although I’m not very hopeful. Attached is serial number and stock photo.

2012 Cdale Synapse, size 54.
Carbon fiber with Hi Mod fork (also miss-matching paint)

Thanks,
Colin

Tuesday Show & Go

Anne Fairbairn

Has this ride been happening??

I showed up at 9:02 a.m., and no one was around.

I would like to ride at least short distances on Tuesdays -- let me know if anyone else is interested.

I rode, solo, around Coyote Hills; it was beautiful, as usual.  It was GREAT to see a crew removing the roots along Paseo Padre Pkwy. in that area, on at least one spot, as I rode by.  (I thanked them!)

Also fun to discover (for those that hadn't been there in a while):  Nice pit toilets at the quarry parking lot & visitor center.

For those that don't know me, I am an experienced, but T-M speed rider who is reawakening her pandemic-pansied muscles, training for my favorite fund-raiser, the Agony Ride on July 23-24.

Thanks, club!  (Yes, I finally gave up on the electronic enrollment/renewal, and mailed in my stuff.)

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride - REI to Alum Rock with Shortcuts!
WhenThu, 1 July, 08:30 – 12:30
WhereREI, 43962 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 34 miles (with shortcuts of -17mi, -7mi, -5mi, -3mi)
Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M

Since REI isn't open, please use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the more familiar Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.

We are riding to Alum Rock along the beautiful foothills. This is a route with lots of flexibility -  to push yourself or take it easy and stretch your legs - whichever you like. I've updated the regroup point to Jose Higuera Adobe at mile 6.  Take Shortcut 1 directly to coffee and cut your mileage by 17.  Shortcut 2 cuts out 7 miles if you choose to ride to the park entrance (restrooms) then turn around..  Or you may go directly to the set of restrooms at the Youth Center and cut out 5 miles and significant climbing using Shortcut 3.  You may continue on the route, decide to skip Miguelito and only do Inspiration Loop (Shortcut 4, -3miles) or you may be in great shape and do the whole 34miles!  Please review the route sheet in advance and be prepared to follow your plan as I won't be chasing anyone down.  Better yet, find a friend with the same plan and stick together. Let me know if you have any questions. No one left behind.

If you are a slow climber like me, but want to do climbing, consider turning around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Starbucks/Noah's Bagels ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Here's the route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36345433 Please print the attached cue sheet and put my cell number in your phone in advance.

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello!

Last week, I was surprised to see so many people show up despite the 95deg temperature by the time we finished the ride.  It will be a much more comfortable temperature tomorrow and we are riding close to home so everyone is welcome to make the ride their own.  Show up along the way, take options to go directly to coffee, skip lots of climbing or skip just the steepest climb and/or leave early - just let me know.  I hope to see your smiling face at Sprouts, at 9AM.  Thanks to Ken for reviewing the route sheet - no errors this week!

Heads up for next week and the rest of the summer, we will be meeting at 8:30AM to avoid some of the heat.
