CCRS #13 - Around the Bay

Julia Walker

Edited

Hope you can join us for the last CCRS ride - lucky 13 "Around the Bay"! Please note that the route has some off-road sections. It is on packed dirt, but you would think you were on pavement if you closed your eyes.
Also, remember to park in the dirt lot!

Fun Ride for Volunteers - April 3

Please drop me an email (no reply all) if you will be doing the 25-mile (with 29 mile option) Fun Ride for volunteers on April 3

I am trying to get a count for how much food to buy

MMRR for tomorrow is cancelled

Robert Tashjian

Monday Morning Recoverees,

Pull up the covers and get some extra sleep tomorrow morning. The Monday Morning Recovery Ride for Mar 28 is cancelled, in what I think is the first rain out of the year. It appears we will be graced by wet stuff falling from the skies with showers continuing through most of the day. Per club rules, the ride now becomes a show and go, if you do ride be careful out there!

Still need Primavera Volunteers

Andrew Sass

Many people have put in hundreds of hours, but the Primavera will not be a success without you putting in 4 hours.  Most of the open positions will have experienced people around you, so no experience needed.

Needs, in order of priority are:

Ed Levin Rest stop Shift 1 (6:30 to 11:30).- 4 spots.  - should be quiet after 10 if you need to leave earlier

Ed Levin Rest Stop Shift 2 (11:30 to 4:30) - 7 slots

Coarse Marshall Ed Levin (12 to 4) - 2 slots

SAG Drivers - 33 spots open.  We can get by with less, need at least 16 though.  No experience necessary.  You just need a car (small is good, as long as it can fit one bike and a rider), a bike pump, and a cell phone. We will supply spare tubes. You wont be doing repairs; there are mechanics at each rest stop. Gas will be reimbursed up to $60.

Registration and setup (6:00 to 10:00) - 3 slots

Rio Lovell Winery Rest stop - 10 spots open.  Can manage with less

There are other spots open as well, but the above are critical

If you will not be available on April 10, but still want to help, send me an email

You don't have to be a club member to volunteer

Andy Sass

Riding buddy needed workers ride

Cinnamon Miras

Hello Volunteers,

Due to the spotty cell service, I'm looking for a riding buddy for the workers ride. Is there anyone out of shape like me?? My goal is just to finish the 100K, slow T speed (10-13mph... obviously faster when going downhill) and walking up 'the wall' not riding it.

Let me know, thanks!
Cinnamon

Please volunteer! I haven’t ridden much this new year due to (the other) knee surgery and COVID. I miss my FFBC buddies! I signed up to do early morning registration and I can’t wait! I was on the planning committee one year and it is a LOT of work! I hope to see you all there for our 50th Anniversary! Let’s do this…together! 😁

Rest stop captains are trying to make assignments and will be contacting volunteers, but we need volunteers!  For those of you that don't want to wear a mask, unless things change, masks will only be required at registration (indoors) and for those preparing food, or serving riders.  And, we are offering gas reimbursement for SAG drivers.  For SAG, you don't need to have a big car.  Most cars will carry a bike with the back seats down and the front tire off.  In fact, smaller cars work well on roads like Calaveras.

Committee members have been putting in hundreds of hours to make our 50th anniversary a success.  All we need (besides good weather) is for some more people to step forward.  Volunteers do not have to be a club member

Hi Lori,

Decided to sign up after all since I realized it’s not back to back weekends with another 2 day event I have in September.

I’m happy to volunteer for pizza person again for Saturday night if we still need one.

Hi FFBC Fuzzies,

I know I told some of you that I didn't plan to ride The Tour de Fuzz, this year since we are moving to Washington.  However, I spoke to Walt a few days ago and he signed up!  He called to see if anyone was riding...so, I guess Phil and I are riding.  We will make our Friday and Saturday night reservations at Best Western Wine Country Inn on Hopper.  Let's do this!  More info to follow but I'm looking for a volunteer pizza person for Saturday night.  Send me a message directly if you're interested.

Final Reminder - Your Guaranteed Spot

Hi FFBC Fuzzies,

I know I told some of you that I didn't plan to ride The Tour de Fuzz, this year since we are moving to Washington.  However, I spoke to Walt a few days ago and he signed up!  He called to see if anyone was riding...so, I guess Phil and I are riding.  We will make our Friday and Saturday night reservations at Best Western Wine Country Inn on Hopper.  Let's do this!  More info to follow but I'm looking for a volunteer pizza person for Saturday night.  Send me a message directly if you're interested.

TMCR - ROUTE

Lori Sommer

Hi,

The route for this week... Ron Mitchell requested Calaveras!  This is for him.  There are lots of options so find a riding buddy (with the same size bladder?) to make this route your own.  The primary route will be direct to the Wall and back.  There is no official coffee stop but it would be great to support Bosco's Bones and Brew in Sunol after the ride if you have the time.

Next week, we will do Norris and Bollinger Canyons from Central Park (again no official coffee stop on the ride) but with lunch afterward at the new Zachary's in Pleasanton.

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride - Sunol Start
WhenThu, 24 March, 09:30 – 13:30
WhereGravel lot across from Niles Canyon Railway, 6 Kilkare Rd, Sunol, CA 94586, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 30 miles (add apx. 4.2 miles and 400' for a restroom stop)
Elevation: 2,496'
Pace: T, M

This week the route starts from the gravel lot across from the Sunol Train Station.

TO THE WALL AND BACK
Route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38832707

The regular route will ride directly to the Wall and back with no restroom stop (apx. 30mi. total, 2,496' elevation gain).  The route sheet includes the optional restroom stop.

BUT we have options! Please find a riding buddy as cell service is sketchy.
1.  If you want a pit stop, at mi 5.4 turn Left onto Geary and do a 4.2mi loop into Sunol Regional Park then make a Left on Calaveras and continue past the reservoir to the Wall.
2. If you need the restroom again on the return you can do the above loop at mile 29.
3. You can ride to Sunol Regional Park (apx. 15mi total with 880' elevation gain)
4.  This is an out and back so you can turn around any time.
5. You can go down and back up The Wall.  You can do repeats!

This route has no official coffee stop.  Bosco's Bones and Brews (11922 Main St, Sunol, CA 94586) is open and serving breakfast and lunch.  They are a supporter of our FFBC Primavera so it would be great to stop in if you have time after the ride.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call me.

PRS #13 San Gregorio

Donna Luporini Kaplan

Hello-

A few quick notes about tomorrow’s PRS M/M+ ride:

·        We meet at 8:00am for an 8:15am start.

·        The path around Facebook/Meta is closed, so after we get off the Dumbarton Bridge, we will turn right to go onto the Bay Trail, turn left onto Willow, and turn right onto Hamilton. This RWGPS URL reflects the change: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29067372

·        The only two places to purchase a snack are at mile 37 (San Gregorio General Store) and mile 41 (The Bike Hut), so be sure to bring snacks and/or cash.

·        Cue sheet attached. Please print your own.

PRS #13: San Gregorio

Start    Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge 1 Marshlands Rd, Fremont, CA 94555

Length 69.4 miles; 5869 feet

Meet at 8:00 am for an 8:15 am start.  Start from the upper lot, past the visitor's center on the left, at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, 2 Marshlands Rd, Fremont, CA 94555.  (Be sure to go past the Visitor Venter's lot and park in the larger lot on the left.)

This ride features stunning scenery with long climbs that add up to the most climbing we will do on a PRS ride. It’s over the bridge, up Old La Honda, down La Honda, and almost to the coast as we go to San Gregorio for lunch. Go easy on the heavy stuff though, because after lunch, on our way back, we will climb Tunitas Creek and will need our concentration for the Kings Mountain descent.

Due to the high probability of rain tomorrow, the CCRS Ride Leaders are canceling Saturday’s ride. The ride becomes Show and Go. If you ride, please be careful.

Thanks,
