I'll have a small table and a huge card too.  We can do it all at the same time?

Hello!

I hope you're joining us for the Thursday Morning Coffee Rolling Bike Birthday Party for Walt.

We meet at 9AM to sign in, decorate helmets and take a group picture and the plan is to roll by 9:30. Since there isn't a coffee stop, we should be back between 11:30AM-12PM.  If you can't make the ride, bring your lunch, have some cake and say hello.  The details are below in the ride post about where to park and meet, before and after the ride.

I could use a couple of volunteers to help make the event flow smoothly both for the ride and the picnic portion.

Thanks so much!

 TMCR - Walt Turns 90!
WhenThu, 9 September, 09:00 – 13:30
WhereSan Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 2 Marshlands Rd, Fremont, CA 94555, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 22.4 miles;
Elevation Gain: 342 feet;
Pace: T,M

Today we will celebrate our friend Walt turning 90 years old with our annual rolling bike party!  Walt is an amazing person and we are so lucky he continues to drive down to ride with us each Thursday. There will be a few changes this year due to trail construction, safety, covid, and Walt's comfort.

Here is the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28516017.  Please download it and pack your cooler.

Here are the plans:

New this year - bring a cooler with your lunch and cold drinks as we will get together for a picnic after the ride.

Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is located in Fremont near Highway 84  Use the link above or 2 Marshlands Road, Fremont and ensure your directions are not sending you to the Alviso location.  Please park in the MAIN Upper Parking Lot (left at the stop sign).

First, sign in (non-FFBC guests fill out and sign the back of the FFBC form), grab a provided route sheet, receive your helmet decor/bling, sign a birthday card,  then ride to the restrooms (located at the Visitor Center, passed on the way in before the stop sign).  Hurry back so we can take a picture for posterity and roll out together.

We will do a 22.4mile ride. First we head to and clockwise around Coyote Hills, which will NOT include Nike this year.  Comfort of Walt, remember?  After a regroup at the Coyote Hills Visitor Center, we will exit the park and loop around Fremont with a stop at Quarry Lakes regional Park before heading back to the start.  Unfortunately, since we are such a big group, there will be no coffee stop on this ride so please bring enough water and a snack if you like. There will be lots of regroups and no one will be left behind and there will be CAKE at the end.

After the ride, grab your lunch/drink and walk/ride down to the Newark Slough Learning Center (no cars allowed).  The easiest way to access the location is to go to the stop sign, make a left down Marshlands Road, pass a couple of parking spaces on the left side and on the left, you'll see the paved path down to the outdoor amphitheater and covered pavilion.  We will sing happy birthday to Walt, have some cake, eat our lunch and socialize.

If you aren't riding, we'd still love to have you join us for the celebration. I'm estimating we would get back to the park at 11:30AM but that is just a guess!  You never know what can happen on a ride.  Please let me know you are coming and you can request to follow me using Find My app on the Apple phone; just send me a text the night before or before 8AM.

This ride is being co-listed with Valley Spokesmen and Grizzly Peak.

DescriptionLength: 34 miles (with shortcuts of -17mi, -7mi, -5mi, -3mi) Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M Note the later start!! Since REI isn't open, please use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the more familiar Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.  We are riding to Alum Rock along the beautiful foothills. This is a route with lots of flexibility -  to push yourself or take it easy and stretch your legs - whichever you like. I've updated the regroup point to Jose Higuera Adobe at mile 6.  Take Shortcut 1 directly to coffee and cut your mileage by 17.  Shortcut 2 cuts out 7 miles if you choose to ride to the park entrance (restrooms) then turn around..  Or you may go directly to the set of restrooms at the Youth Center and cut out 5 miles and significant climbing using Shortcut 3.  You may continue on the route, decide to skip Miguelito and only do Inspiration Loop (Shortcut 4, -3miles) or you may be in great shape and do the whole 34miles!  Please review the route sheet in advance and be prepared to follow your plan as I won't be chasing anyone down.  Better yet, find a friend with the same plan and stick together. Let me know if you have any questions. No one left behind. If you are a slow climber like me, but want to do climbing, consider turning around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.  We will have lunch at Starbucks/Noah's Bagels ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.  Here's the route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36345433 Please print the attached cue sheet and put my cell number in your phone in advance.   Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction, rain, poor air quality or the whim of the ride leader may modify or cancel the route. Air Quality has turned to pthtttpp in the last hour or so, to unhealthy for sensitive groups. It looks worse than that. We’ll still be there at 5:45 with sign-in sheets, but the ride is cancelled and is now a show & go. Come on out, and join us, have some snacks and a beer to cry in over not riding.

Das Brewsters,

This Friday is the last FFBC Das Brew Ride of the Summer. Come out and ride with us, or simply meet up with us after the ride for a cold one and snacks with your convivial bike buddies. We’ll meet at 5:45pm for a 6:00pm departure, back between 7 and 7:30 to start the final festivities, going until 8:30 or 9.  It’s looking to be warm on Friday, so it should be really pleasant out on the Das Brew ‘Al Fresco’ area. Right now the air quality is predicted to be in the good to low moderate range. There is a choice of two routes

“Right Turn Clyde”, which is a flatter (cooler) route (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27922960)

or

“Hills Backwards” which is a more challenging (much warmer) route (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27922999)

The choice is yours. Please print your own cuesheet or load the route on your gps. Should the weather or air quality take a significant turn for the worse, we’ll still be at Das Brew at 5:45 to mourn our inability to ride (eg., crying into our beers and feasting on snacks).

If you are not riding, or new to the club and want to meet some members, come on down to Das Brew around 7 or 7:30 and join us for the post ride festivities!

Hi FFBC members,
I can make it this year so if someone is interested I am selling my reservation and willing to pay a 15 $ transfer fee.

I have a 100-mile ride with the BBQ, and also the king and queen challenge.
I paid 124 $ and will sell it for 85$.
Please let me know if someone is interested.
Thank you,
Lilit
