Tour de Hills Cancelled
All the weather apps agree: heavy rains tonight, high winds, some flooding, showers lingering into the morning and perhaps throughout the day. Best not to ride.
Unfortunately, we'll also miss the lunar eclipse tonight. But at least we get to enjoy Election Day! And, for members, there's a club meeting via Zoom at 7:30 p.m.; see Glenn's post for details. |

CANCELLED: 8:45 AM Calaveras Scenic Ride
Vijai Soori
Dear freewheelers-
I am unfortunately canceling the 8:45 AM ride today ride due to poor visibility conditions. Even though it’s not raining right now and is not expected to rain until later in the evening, the fog is thick and the mountain sections of the ride is risky since passing vehicular traffic may not be able to spot us at a distance. I am quite sad since this ride was my birthday gift to myself but ride safety trumps my gratification ☺️. Have a wonderful weekend - I’ll see you on the same ride next week. - Vijai |

Thank you for providing the notice for this meeting on Monday morning. I will be speaking in support of Alternatives 2 and 3. Alternative 1 does not provide any additional safe access for bikes over the existing condition with only Sharrows painted in the lanes. Alternative 1 would also not comply with the County’s Complete Streets Policy. Alt 2A & 2B remove parking on one side of the street to accommodate bike lanes. Alt 2C and Alt 3 remove parking from both sides to accommodate buffered bike lanes. This is an important issue for both pedestrians and bicyclists in Castro Valley. Glenn Kirby

Rims wanted
Joe Banchero
My neighbor is looking for a Fulcrum Racing 5 C17 ( 700c/29) front rim.
He accidentally ran over his rim. He also would consider buying front/rear set. Thanks Joe Banchero Couldn’t find link to discussions on our website. |

Google calendar blocking
Robert Miller
Some of you may have noticed you can’t access the ride calendar. I’m sorry this is happening. It has nothing to do with your account. It seems there has been lots of suspicious access attempts into our
ride calendar, so Google calendars has temporarily blocked our website to some people (some IP addresses). I’m not sure why the “robot captcha” is not working properly. In any case this will usually clear up after 24 hours or so, when Google clears us again
for access. I’m not sure what I can do about it at the moment but I’m checking.
In the meantime you should be able to get to the calendar directly by using the following link:
Thanks,
Bob Miller

Looks like so much fun! Thanks to all who made it happen. Sacramento bike groups used to do regular night rides with lights on the wheels, etc..... Sorry to have missed. Betsy Borruso

Re: Descending Safely Down Mt Diablo
Fujino, Don H.
For what it’s worth my technique for hard right curves: enter the turn as far outside as possible/safe, typically very left of middle so I can see what’s ahead hit the apex and exit the turn
For hard left curves, it’s completely different because of inherent blind spots and I tend to be much less aggressive and always stay in my lane.

I agree with Tim. This is also the right way to take any corner at speed. enter the turn as far outside as possible/safe, hit the apex as far inside as possible/safe, and exit the turn as far outside as possible/safe -Daniel On Fri, Oct 14, 2022, 11:57 Tim OHara <timorides2@...> wrote:
