Yet another road closure

Yesterday we found Mt Hamilton closed at the top of the first climb at the section where there was one way control on the weekend.  This is before the descent to Grant Ranch Park. It was definitely closed as they were doing serious roadwork.   According to CalTran web site, the road is open.  According to Google Maps that stretch is closed until May 29.  There is another section even lower down marked closed until Jul 2023 which I'm sure is wrong since we rode past it. According to quickmap.dot.ca.gov it's closed from 3 springs to Quimby until July 2023.   Beware if you are planning Mt Ham soon.

Anyone know of a more reliable source of information?

Tour de Hills Canceled

Barry

We haven't done a regularly planned Tour de Hills ride since February 14!  We relocated one close to home to beat the wind and rain, replaced one with a PRS make-up ride, and canceled the rest.  Tomorrow's ride is yet another cancellation.  Rain by 10 a.m. and high winds.  Sad to say, April showers are forecast for next Tuesday.  (I don't get the honor of canceling that one.)

I am happy to announce that a lot of people have volunteered to work the Primavera, and many have done their taxes and streamed old movies.  There are still several open Primavera volunteering opportunities, especially as you scroll to the bottom of the list, including some new opportunities with the workers' ride and the pizza party.

Mountain Home Road was still closed this morning for major tree trimming.  The picture below was taken at Manzanita Way.  I was told that they were scheduled to complete the job this week but, due to the coming rains, it will probably be next week before Mountain Home Road is opened.

Btw, check out the guy at the top of the tree and the treetop that he cut off that's being lowered to the ground by the crane.  That guy earned his pay today.

Hi Rob,

It all sounds great. So I’m clear on the parking area for the start. Should we just park on the side of the street in the area noted on the route map start? Is there enough parking there?

Thanks,

Bob

Grizzly Peak Century

Lazy Bear

We've received an inordinate amount of precipitation this year, but we can weather this storm together by looking forward to riding the Grizzly Peak Century in May - during what will most certainly be a lovely spring experienced along our fabulous course. There's just no drought about it - you'll want to secure your spot in the Grizzly Peak Century while you still can! You can register here for the 30, 50, 75, or 100 mile course, or the new gravel course as well! Registration prices go up next month so be sure to register now at the current price of $90. You can grab a t-shirt too while they're still available. We can't wait to host you for our annual party-on-two-wheels!

Tour de Hills Canceled

Canceled or Cancelled?  Some use the first, and others use the second.  (The calendar events have the second.)  Here's something to read while not riding:  https://www.grammarly.com/blog/canceled-vs-cancelled/.  Same rules apply to modeled, fueled, labeled, rivaled, traveled, shoveled, tunneled, etc.  Try them with two 'els' and see how they look.  Of course, use whichever one you like.

Tomorrow's ride is canceled.  We will try the Pi ride again next Tuesday.

Hi FFBC'ers and guests,

We're just about a month away from the BIG DANCE!!!...  Thanks everyone for stepping up and filing empty slots.  There's a few without any volunteers that could use your help. Please consider asking your family, friends, or neighbors to help.

I've also added two more NEW SLOTS:  Monday, 4/24 locker cleanup and Sunday, 4/30 pizza party set up help.

Thank you for your support.

As Sophie notes, we need your T-shirt size by TOMORROW, 2/24 or no later than next Tuesday, 2/28.  Any shirt size orders will be a best guess and no guarantee you'll get your size.  Volunteers also get these FREE benefits:

  • Ride the routes (with supplied rest station drinks, snacks, & SAG - assuming we get volunteers... hint, hint),
  • Swag bag,
  • Appreciation pizza party,
  • And many more :)

FFBC membership not required to volunteer, so feel free to invite your friends (or non-friends), co-workers, neighbors, and/or family.  There's plenty of slots dates other than the Primavera event day.  Thank you.

I am sorry, Colin, but we don’t have 30 days for the volunteers to order their exact size. I need to get the order in next Friday at the latest. I’d prefer to send the order in this Friday but if it helps to get a more accurate number, I am willing to wait until next Friday.

I am just a little nervous because I have never personally worked with this particular printer before, even though the club has. The number of shirts I will be ordering will be based on the numbers you would provide me up to that point and will also be informed by data from past Primavera events, provided to me by Susanna. Thanks for understanding.

Sign up here for as many slots as you can and invite friends and family members.  Check out the custom design (coming soon!) for your FREE volunteer T-shirt made by our very own club designer, Sophie Chang Saeed.  Yes, she also designed the Primavera jersey and sock!

For club members only, you will receive a discount for the ride jersey (sorry not the socks).  Please check the web site for instructions. Login first, then your membership will automatically post your discount. NOTE:   ORDERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 7.
