Dear Monday Morning Recovery Riders,

The weather reports for tomorrow do not look good (well, not good for bike riding, but good for the drought.)  It’s looking like there will be rain for at least a couple of hours in the morning, perhaps more.  We will check the reports again in the morning and will send out confirmation or cancelation by 6:30am.

Subject: [discussion] Route sheets for Workers Ride

Hi Freewheelers,

Attached are the route sheets for the Workers Rides on Sunday. Since Calaveras will not be open for us on Sunday all route sheets except the Fun Ride (25 mil) route sheet are significantly different to the actual Primavera route sheets. For riders of the Fun Ride please let me know if there are any errors on the route sheet. If there are issues with the route marking please let David Harcos (dharcos@...) know.

For riders of 100M, 100K and 85M routes I have attached 2 sets of route sheets to this email, the first set is the cue sheet generated from RideWithGPS, the second is the actual route sheets for the Primavera. The RideWithGPS route sheets will get you all the way around the Workers Rides but it’d be really nice if a few people used tested the actual Primavera Route sheets starting from the Sunol rest stop (where the Workers and Primavera routes converge).

Remember to please print out your route sheet(s) before the ride on Sunday since it looks like we only have a confirmed ride leader for the 85 mile route. Thanks Julie G.!

Happy riding!

moderated Route - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello Thursday Morning Coffee Riders,

It looks like we will have no rain during the ride tomorrow!  However, the winds are forecast to 20mph by noon and 22mph by 1PM.  Since we are going across the bay, I plan to do a shorter ride (27mi, 500').  The coffee stop is Prolific Oven.  If the winds are too bad, we may cut it short and also do a coffee break rather than a lunch break.  You are welcome to park at the bridge (to cut about 6 miles) and you won't  to deal with the wind on Marshlands at the end of the ride. I may do that also - meaning I will drive to the start, sign everyone in, drive to the end of the bridge, sign anyone in, get on my bike and meet everyone at the benches on the other side of the bridge.

See you bright and early!

Lori

WhereVisitor Center, Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge (map)
DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles; Elevation: feet;
Terrain: 2,3 Pace: T,M

Meet at 9:00 for a 9:15 start from the Don Edwards Visitor Center (Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, 1 Marshlands Rd, cross-street Thornton Ave, Fremont) and we head across the Dumbarton Bridge to various destinations.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

I am cancelling today’s M ride.  It has been raining all night, and although it looks like it will stop at 8:00 in Fremont and 9:00 in San Jose, the reports are now saying possible showers starting up again around noon.  Tim O’Hara will be sending out his decision about the B ride shortly.

This ride now becomes a Show and Go.  If you do decide to ride, be careful—there is a lot of debris after this storm and the roads are very wet.

See you next month.

(shameless request --  if you haven't yet signed up to volunteered, we'd love your help: Primavera Century  click on Volunteers link on left to sign up).

The weather forecast is good for Sunday's  strenuous climb. I will lead an M pace ride; faster riders are welcome to ride ahead / do partial repeats on the hills (!).
Cue sheet attached (excel & .pdf); please print and bring to start.

Meet: 8:00 for 8:15 start
Where: Starbucks at Mission and Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont - Warm Springs Plaza 46655 Mission Blvd, Fremont, CA 94539

Description: Despite Calaveras Road still closed at False Summit, we'll still climb Sierra Road, admire the view, then ride down Felter Road, detour down rural Marsh Road and back, then down to Ed Levin Park for water and bathroom break. Then back up and over the Wall to the False Summit on Calaveras. After our descent back to Milpitas, lunch/coffee at Starbucks/Noahs on N. Milpitas Road, then back to start. (bring snacks since the food stop is later in the ride).

Rain, extreme heat or otherwise unsafe conditions cancels ride; ride leader will send notification by 6:30 am.

We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Description:Length: 38 miles; Elevation: 1,912-2,500 feet;
Terrain: 3; Pace: B

Meet at
8:3- for a 8:45 start.  Join us for a few of Fremont’s finest hills. We might ride the neighborhood hills we affectionately call “The Stupid Hills” (including Pine, Sabercat, “The Animals” and our friend Paseo Padre), or we might head through Niles Canyon to Palomares Road for a quite, scenic climb to Castro Valley. From Castro Valley we’ll either head to Pleasanton and tackle the rollers on Foothill before returning through the canyon, or for a little extra climbing, we’ll head up Five Canyons Pkwy and return via Hayward. Bring money for coffee and/or a snack, we’ll definitely stop for a well deserved break! Rain or significant chance of rain cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to the FFBC Yahoo! group by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email, means the ride is on). As a thank you to our volunteers, the rest stops will be fully stocked.  Dennis's email implied you had to bring a lunch.  You can do that if   you have special dietary needs.

There will be two manned rest stops.  One at Sunol, and one at Rios Lovell Estate Winery.  The 100 mile route will go up Palomares from Niles Canyon, then over Dublin grade and down Foothill to Sunol.  It is about the same milage and elevation as getting to Sunol via Calaveras.  After that, riders will follow the Primavera Route with stops at the winery before and after Altamont.  The 85 mile route is the same as the 100 mile route, just skipping Altamont.

Most likely, the 100K will go up Niles Canyon to Sunol, then follow the 85 mile route, with one stop at Rios Lovell.

So, we need 2 rest stop volunteers, and a couple of SAG volunteers, as well as ride leaders

It would be wonderful if someone would also volunteer for rest stop on the Fun Ride at Coyote Hills.

2)  85 mile route: the route should be similar to the century route so a volunteer will take your lunches to the same designated rest stop.  I still need ride leaders for the M, B, & F pace riders.
3)  Metric Century route:  The route has yet to be determined and will be coming asap.  I need ride leaders for the M & B pace riders and a SAG to take the riders' lunches to the designated lunch stop.
4)  Fun Ride:  I need a ride leader for this ride
