Moab Skinny Tire Event - 4 Day Mar 9th - 12th

John Martin <washo715@...>

Hi FFBC Members -

I'm strongly considering signing up for the Moab Skinny Tire Event coming up March 9th - 12th in Moab, Utah. I was wondering if anyone from the club plans to participate and also if anyone has done this ride in the past, any comments or feedback are much appreciated.

Warm Regards,

John Martin

Canceled/Rescheduled LAP 3

Good Morning,

Today’s planned LAP 3 ride is canceled due to forecasted rain during the ride. However, this  ride is rescheduled for Monday (and has been added to the calendar). We hope to see you at 9 AM tomorrow.

We will keep you posted!

Hello,

What a wonderful ride in the hills last week.  It was a cold and foggy start but the day warmed up a bit and the beautiful green hills were scenic even unfilled with lambs, calves or llamas. We had a big turnout for all paces and are hoping for the same this Sunday.  Thank you to our ride leaders: Vanessa, Rob T., and Louis.  The weather forecast is questionable so we will send out a message either way by Sunday at 7AM.

LAP 3 crosses the Dumbarton and we plan to climb Edgewood (no Brewster Bump for 2019!), Olive Hill and Huddart Park and the official route is 44 miles and 1971'.  But we have options!  You can skip Huddart and your route will be 41 miles and 1536' as shown in blue (reduce route by 3 miles and 435') or skip both Olive Hill and Huddart and the route becomes 38miles and 1250' as shown in purple on the route sheet (reduce route by 6 miles and 721').  Another unofficial option - park at the base of the bridge and meet us at the first regroup at the benches on the other side of the bridge to sign in (please let me know in advance) and reduce your ride by 5-6 miles.

One important point is to use the restroom BEFORE you arrive to Don Edward.  The gates are open (and we are parking in the upper lot) BUT THE RESTROOMS ARE CLOSED.  So we will do our sign-in at the upper parking lot rather than the restroom.  Ken has verified the restrooms will be open at BayFront Park at mile 8.3 (run by the city and on a timer).

The second point is to please print your route sheet!  It is attached to the email.  We will bring a few to the start incase someone has last minute printer issues but please plan to bring your own so you aren't caught short.

We hope to see you (and that the rain takes a break)!

LAP Rides - More Fun!
The Less Aggressive Progressive (LAP) ride series is back for its seventh year and it’s going to be even better! Not only will you train for a metric century by cycling weekly routes, that get progressively longer with more climbing, but you will do it with a fun group of people! This year we are increasing the number of rides from ten to fourteen and we plan to summit Mt. Hamilton to finish out the series.

Of course most of the LAP routes can be modified (even Mt. Hamilton) to reduce mileage and climbing and you are always welcome to join mid-route, skip coffee/lunch, leave early or ride off the front – just let a ride leader know. There is always a sweep and we do many smaller regroups so no one is left behind. Once again, the LAP rides will be lead by lots of friendly, knowledgeable and helpful ride leaders for the LAP series.

The LAP series has less elevation gain and climbing than the traditional FFBC Progressive Series (PRS) and is aimed at Touring/Moderate pace riders (especially those that climb at a slower pace). PDF versions of our Excel route sheets will be sent out via email to FFBC’s https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics a few days before each ride. We ask that you print and bring it to the ride. All,

Hello! I did this ride earlier today and I lost my Garmin Edge computer in front of Bicycle Garage.  I would like it back if anyone picked it up.  The last two rides on said device were the Cinderlla ride today and LAP ride at Collier Canyon.  Thank your for your audience and I apologize for taking up inbox space.

YOU made 'Being There' possible for Law Enforcement Chaplains in Sonoma County, we are forever grateful.

chaplains 2

Law Enforcement Chaplains responded to officers, firefighters, paramedics and distraught residents during last year's Butte County Camp Fire and the 2017 Sonoma County Tubbs Fire.

Your loyalty to our annual bike ride made 'Being There' a reality in the aftermath of California's two most destructive wildfires.

As we start the new year, we want to thank YOU. Your past participation in Tour de Fuzz made it possible for our chaplains to serve hundreds of fire victims affected by tragedy and loss. Tour de Fuzz (TdF) is the chaplaincy program’s primary funding source, so 24/7—365, it’s your support that makes their community presence and service even possible.

Also thanks to you, our popular annual ride sells out quick. The fact is, that hundreds couldn’t get in last year, as the venue is limited to 1,300 riders.

But your loyalty? That’s a big deal.

So here’s some loyalty back: we'll hold your spot for the September 14, 2019 TdF, just fill out this pre-registration form (click to open), by January 25.

No need for money now. We’ll send you a “guaranteed spot” confirmation to register before we open to the public in March.

On behalf of Sonoma County, thanks for your support.

Tour de Fuzz is a benefit ride for the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy of Sonoma County and the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Foundation. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit doing good every day, thanks to your support!

Hello-

Last night the weather reports looked promising for today’s ride, but this morning I was surprised to see the rain forecasts have moved up to 10:00 am.

This ride is now cancelled and has become a Show and Go.  If you do ride, and it does rain, be careful out there.

Hope to see you next week.

Hello LAP Riders,
We are off to an inauspicious start with the rain but forging ahead with LAP 2 on Sunday.  We will head out into the country and see if the grass is green and how the cows, goats, llamas and horses are faring.  We start at the Dublin-Pleasanton Bart and will stop at a restroom within the first couple of miles.  Then we start climbing but it isn't too bad.  When we get to Collier Canyon, look for the windmill.  Then it is a fast decent to the bottom and then we will climb Doolan.  If you skip Doolan you can take off about 8 miles.  We will regroup at Starbucks in the Lucky's shopping center  at the corner of Portola and N. Livermore.  We are skipping Denica's this year and using a new approach to into the Starbucks.  If you'd still like to go to Denica's you are welcome to, just let a ride leader know you are leaving.  After coffee, we will head back via Holmes, Vallecitos, E. Vineyard and the Bernal Bump (which can also be skipped).

Of course! As of now rain is predicted on Sunday.  As we did last week, we will let you know by 7AM if the ride is canceled.  There was a snafu with the website last week regarding the discussion group (members only) and info group (general public) and some people may have received a late notification, which has been corrected.  Sorry about that, you are always welcome to text Lori if you are unsure if the ride is canceled.

We hope to see you on Sunday.

Today’s route is a great ride into scenic rural areas. We will meet on the Pleasanton side, which is the south side of the of the Dublin-Pleasanton BART station (not the West Dublin-Pleasanton station near Stoneridge mall), in the small side parking lot near the intersection of Owens and Willow. Although there are no restrooms at the start, we will be stopping for a nature break at mile 2.2.

We will ride through Pleasanton followed by climbs on Gleason, Fallon, Camino Tassajara, Highland and Collier Canyon. This is a clockwise loop with a fun descent into Livermore. We will stop at Starbucks for coffee and meander back before climbing Bernal Bump as the finish to our ride.

PDF versions of our Excel route sheets will be sent out via email to FFBC’s https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics a few days before each ride. We ask that you print and bring it to the ride. The link to the route on ridewithgps.com is available for downloading but any route sheet generated from the link is for information only and does not have listed regroups.

We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph). No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email means the ride is on). If you are unsure of the ride status, call or text ride leader on the morning of the ride.

SERIES DESCRIPTION:

The link to the route on ridewithgps.com is available for downloading but any route sheet generated from the link is for information only and does not have listed regroups.

Come join us!
