Thank you Lori, Cindy and Ken for a great celebration ride yesterday!  And thank you Dave E for patiently waiting for a couple of us that would have missed a critical turn on the way back.

MILEAGE/ELEVATION GAIN:  40/1850’

DATE:  3/18/18

TIME: 9:30AM

START:   Parking lot at the end of Marshlands Rd, at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (Fremont side).

Just when you were wondering what you were going to do with your Sundays, now that the last LAP ride is over…  Surprise! We are holding a 2018 LAP Celebration Ride, complete with a beer and food stop! Please join us, whether or not you rode any of the LAP rides this year.   Our route will take us up to the Redwood City Cross and then back down again to the best part of the ride: beer and food!  We will stop at the Marsh Manor Center, at Marsh & Florence, in Menlo Park, where we can indulge at Freewheel Brewing, Starbucks, and a wide variety of yummy cuisines, sweets and ice cream at the local stores.

IMPORTANT note, we will start the ride later at 9:30am and we will meet at the BASE of the Dumbarton Bridge, so we don’t have to ride the dreaded Marshlands Rd.  There is plenty of parking at this location but no convenient bathroom.  Please use the facilities at Don Edwards before you park by the bridge. As usual, we will have options for a shortcut or two if you want to reduce mileage or skip the climb.    See the route here:https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26999476.  We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph). No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. Check the FFBC message board or email or call us.

Julia Walker

This week we start from Bayfront Park. Please note the earlier start time - plan to arrive by 8:30 for an 8:45 start.

Rain cancels - three of four weather sites show 20 - 40% chance of rain on Saturday. I will post an update by 7 AM if the ride is canceled.

Join us for one of the highlights of the Conditioning Ride Series, a ride to beautiful Crystal Springs Reservoir. Starting at Bayfront Park, we ride to Menlo Park where we’ll weave through the neighborhoods. We’ll make our way to Woodside and then ride down Canada Rd. taking in the beautiful views of the reservoir. We’ll U-turn at HWY 92 and head to our coffee/lunch stop. From there we’ll make our way back to the start of the ride! Optional beer stop at Freewheel Brewery toward the end of the ride!

Please print and bring the attached route sheet.

We will mainly stay in Fremont but ride through Newark and sometimes Union City and Milpitas on occasion. Sometimes the climbing is optional. Reminder for Club Meeting Tuesday

David Walker

Just as a reminder, the club meeting is on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30PM. There's still plenty of time to sign up. As a bonus, new FFBC members Rober McManmon and Michelle Huang will be briefly presenting about their bike tours business that organizes tours in Japan. This will be followed up by a presentation on keeping your bike safe.

As before, the club will supply food for members. This month, I'm bringing in Burritos from Chipotle. If you plan on attending the meeting, fill out this form so I'll know how much and what kind of food to order. I'll probably place the order at around Noon on Tuesday so sign up before then.
As always, the meeting will be held at:

Fremont Adult School, Room N6 (all the way in the back, in the back row of buildings)
Fremont, CA 94538

I hope you can make it! If you have any questions, let me know.

By the way, I posted this to the Yahoo group as well. If you received it on Yahoo and not through groups.io, let me know.

Thanks,
David Walker

Sunday - LAP 10 Metric

Cindy M

It isn't too late to join us for the final fun LAP ride!  After 10 weeks we are finishing up with a metric century full of scenic climbs and descents out in Pleasanton, Livermore & Danville.  Climbs include Windemere, Collier, and Del Valle and a peaceful, scenic ride on Doolan Rd. There are two food stops (at miles 35 and 59) with plenty of choices and a Starbucks at each of them. The route sheet is attached for you to print out and bring to the ride.

If you aren't up for the entire metric, make the ride your own.  We have three options for you to reduce mileage and skip climbing!  Whatever works best for you is great for us.

Please contact us if you have any questions.  We hope to see you on Sunday! Oh yes, remember to set your clocks ahead the night before - it’s Daylight Savings Time!

TITLE: FFBC 2018 LAP 10  Metric

MILEAGE/ELEVATION GAIN: 64/3040’

DATE:  3/11/18

TIME: 9:00AM

START:   Dublin/Pleasanton BART parking lot. (IMPORTANT! NOT the WEST Dublin/Pleasanton BART station!)

Our last ride of the LAP series is a metric century dreamed up last year by Ken.  The route will take us through the green hills of Pleasanton, Livermore and Danville.  Some of the climbs will be familiar to you, but don’t worry, we are not doing the Bernal Bump again!  Climbs include Windemere, Collier, and Del Valle and a peaceful, scenic ride on Doolan Rd. There will be several shortcut options on the route sheet so you can easily reduce overall mileage and climbing.  There are two food stops (at 35 and 59 miles) with plenty of choices and a Starbucks at each of them. See the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26490581.

Our start location is at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART parking lot. (IMPORTANT! NOT the WEST Dublin/Pleasanton BART station!)  Traveling on I-580, take the Hopyard exit South and turn left on Owens Dr.  Meet in the first BART station parking lot on the left. There are no bathrooms here so we will have a bathroom stop two miles into the ride.

We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph). No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. Check FFBC Yahoo! Group, email or call us.

Hello Coffee Riders,

So far the weather looks like it might be okay.  Of course, if things change overnight, I will send out something by 7AM.

I've been working on a route for tomorrow.   I scavenged an old Cinderella route which is short and flat that we haven't done in quite awhile.  We will cross the bridge, admire some houses and hopefully be able to hear some water in San Francisquito Creek before our Art Show at the Meno Park VA.  If you are short on time, there is an option on the route sheet to skip it.  Coffee isn't until mile 20 so bring some snacks and I'll bring route sheets.

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride across the Dumbarton
WhenThu, March 8, 9:30am – 1:30pm
WhereVisitor Center, Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, 1 Marshlands Road (map)
DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles; Elevation: feet;
Terrain: 2,3 Pace: T,M

As part of today's ride, we will do something special after a short coffee stop and before coming home over the bridge.  We will stop into The 32nd Annual Creative Arts Festival Veteran Art Exhibition held at the VA on Willow Road.  One of our regular Thursday riders has submitted two art pieces at this event and we will take a look that those as well as a few of the other submittals before they move on to the National Festival.  Riders that can't stay can head back early using the route sheet.

Meet at the Don Edwards Visitor Center (Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, 1 Marshlands Rd, cross-street Thornton Ave, Fremont) and we head across the Dumbarton Bridge to various destinations. For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch. Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check FFBC Yahoo! Group, email or call! me!
