Hello Tour de Fuzz Riders,

We are fast approaching one of the best rides of the year on Saturday, September 8th!  The Tour de Fuzz (https://www.tourdefuzz.org)  is sold out but if you want to come and didn't sign up in time, here is a way to get notified of any openings: tour de fuzz courtesy notification.

Please fill out the following Google document (FFBC Fun at the Fuzz) to let me know the usual (which route you're planning, if/where you're staying, your cell, arrival and departure day,  if you're coming to the potluck, what you are bringing, etc).  Or, if spreadsheets aren't your thing, just send me a text or an email with the info.  Please fill out the document or send me the information even if you are just joining us for the day/  We can still meet you at the start, look for you on the road, at the rest stops and eat together at the finish plus then I can try to talk you into stopping by for the potluck.

The potluck will be at the same location as last year, Best Western Wine Country Inn and Suites: 870 Hopper Avenue, Santa Rosa.  Last year it worked out well with Julie taking a $10 donation and ordering pizza (in lieu of a potluck item).  Is anyone willing to organize the pizza part of it this year?  We will have cake for Walt's birthday!

I'm looking forward to seeing our beautiful, bright orange FFBC jerseys on the roads of the wine country.

It’s time for a roll through Newark. Let’s meet at 6pm for a 6:15 start. We’ll have a flat ride, looping around Newark to work up a thirst, then back for a cold one. Should be a nice headwind for the ride out, then an even nicer tailwind for the ride back. The weather is supposed to be about 5 degrees cooler than Thursday and the wind should start to shift, clearing out the smoke. If you can’t make it to the start, we will be back around 7:30 if you want to join us for the after-ride fun.

“Miles to Go Before My Beer” option: 17mi

Or a shorter

“I Want My Beer NOW” option: 12mi

I’ll have route sheets at the signin or you can print your own.

Lori Sommer

Hi,

Sorry for the late notice!

We will be doing the Old Page Mill - Arastradero - Alpine loop with coffee at Prolific Oven in Palo Alto.  I've attached the route sheet as requested.  There are options to reduce mileage and climbing. The first option is to park out at the end of Marshlands Road and meet us as we cross the Dumbarton Bridge.  The second is to turn left on Stanford and skip the climbing.

Cindy probably won't be able to join us after all as she has some pressing business to take care of.  Jules (the other Julie) and I presented her with her photo book with pictures from from lots of ride and sentiments that people sent in.  Thanks so much to everyone.  She really liked it.

I hope to see you tomorrow.

It is also an opportunity to ride down the Las Vegas Strip with a police escort. If you register before August 10th use the code EARLY for a $15 dollar discount on the registration fee. If you are a disabled veteran contact me for a code to ride for free. This ride is open to all.

Several club members have already registered and have joined my team ‘Cycling Against MIlitary Sexual Trauma’. It will also be a great opportunity to say hi to Cindy; she plans to ride with us. The ride is Saturday November 10th. See the link below for more details.

Hello Everybody!

The season is in full swing, and there are lots of rides going.     Group riding is a shared safety exercise - There is safety and speed in numbers.

Riding in a group is also a responsibility - the riders behind you have a harder time seeing road debris and obstacles.    Club rides often bunch up at intersections or coming into re-groups.  There are a few simple things you can do to keep the whole group safe:

Point out obstacles in the roadway.  As you go around the obstacle, point at it and call it out - "Hole!"

Avoid sudden braking.   When you are at the front of a group, or even in the middle, the riders rely upon your consistent pace and steady line to be safe.   Quick changes in speed lead to crashes.  If you must brake, call out "Braking" to warn other riders.

When riding behind other cyclists who may not be paying attention to rules one and two, choose a bike position such that you can see the roadway ahead of them and be prepared for the unexpected.

These rules apply to all rides!   As cyclists, we tend to focus on the road ahead.  On club rides, there are other people around and you can be the lead rider at any moment.

Thanks!

Hello FFBC Members.

To avoid any confusion caused by my previous emails, there WILL BE Pizza Rides in August on the first 4 Wednesday (8/1, 8/8, 8/15, and 8/22).  There NOT BE A Pizza Ride on the 5th Wednesday, August 29th.

There is a new ride addition to the calendar.  Starting in August, on the 2nd Saturday of every month, a ride will start from Sprouts in Newark and ride across the Dumbarton Bridge into the Los Altos Hills.  Check the ride calendar for details.

The August Ride Calendar is now completed with the exception of the Women's Social Ride on Sunday, August 26th.  A ride leader is still needed for the ride.  Please let me know if any member(s) can take the lead on this ride.  If there is no ride leader, the ride will either be cancelled or become a Show & Go.

Thanks and ride safe!

moderated Short Notice Ride: Ride to Pedalfest

David Walker

The route has been finalized and the route sheet is attached. Thanks to everyone who told me about traffic construction on the original route. Hopefully, tomorrow will be smooth sailing!

Pedalfest is in Oakland is this Saturday. I've never been to Pedalfest before, but I know it has bikes (I like bikes), beer (I like beer) and food (I like food). Maybe I'll like Pedalfest then!

Join Julia and me for a nice, easy ride to the festivities. We'll start from the Starbucks next to the CVS in Warm Springs (46655 Mission Blvd, Fremont). Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start. The ride will be 37 miles with minimal climbing and the pace will be T, M. The (tentative) route is here:

They have free bike valet parking but you may still want to bring a lock. Bring some cash for lunch (and beer). After the visit, it is very easy to find your way to BART for a ride home.
