Thursday Morning Coffee Riders,
I'm still working on tomorrow's route.  It will be mostly flat, about 30 miles with a coffee stop at Mollie Stone.

DescriptionLength: 25-35 miles; Elevation: feet;
Terrain: 2,3 Pace: T,M

Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start from the Don Edwards Visitor Center (Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge, 1 Marshlands Rd, cross-street Thornton Ave, Fremont) and we head across the Dumbarton Bridge to various destinations.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee and riders are welcome to head back on their own if they know the way. Usually we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind. Bring $ for lunch.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call! me!

Thanks, Mike!  The rider that went to the new Cabrillo Cafe on Monday appreciates the clarification. 😉  See you next Monday. 🚴‍♂️

Hi all,

So over the last month or so we have been trying a few changes and feel that we have a safer route for the MMRR. Please see the route below. I have added Nike to the route which is optional.

Also, this last Monday a rider went to the new Cabrillo Cafe (on Stevenson) for the start of the ride which is not the location for the start (on Thornton) which used to be the location of the Cabrillo Cafe. So we have changed the description for the start to make sure there is no confusion.

Hello FFBC-

This Saturday, Mike Brasseur and I will lead the 1st Saturday of the Month ride.  We will start in downtown Niles and ride out to Alum Rock Park once again, as Calaveras is still closed to traffic.  (The most recent news we have heard about Calaveras is that it will open at the end of September.)

I hope you can join us!

When:    Sat, July 7, 8:30am – 1:00pm

Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start. This is our traditional "1st Saturday of the Month" ride. However, due to the closure of Calaveras Road, we will ride to Alum Rock Park instead. The route will still bring us out into Milpitas and we will still return via a route that stays close to the hills. Bring $$ for a coffee stop at Noah's/Starbucks in Milpitas. Rain or serious threat of rain cancels.

Early start to beat the summer heat! Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start.  We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.

We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.

A huge thank you to Lori, my cycling mentor, supporter and friend, who opened up her home to us all, for the Bon Voyage party last week. Under Profile, Settings, Privacy, you can create a privacy zone round your home whereby Strava will not reflect the start or finish of a ride at your home.  Given we all ride bicycles that are near and dear to our hearts, keeping private the start location seems to be a good idea.  Lord knows, we don't want to provide a road map to where our bikes are stored to a would be thief.

If you have a question and cannot find where to make the change, please e-mail me and I will see if I can help.

moderated LAST CALL - Cindy’s Ride And Potluck (Cindy delete this message)

Lori Sommer

FFBC Members (except for Cindy!),

Thursday is the Bon Voyage Ride and Potluck for Cindy.  There are 25 RSVP's so far on the Google document.  It isn't too late!  Please use this link (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WSdxjRsTRRWvvpyzGONLN5K-iH-ZinYI1pswM3nxQeU/edit?usp=sharing) to let me know you're coming and what you are bringing.

You can text me before Wednesday at 5PM if you'd like to make a small donation towards a gift card and photo book.  I will add the money for you and then you can reimburse me at the potluck and sign the card.  Julie Fuller (luv2hikejulie@...) is putting together a photo book for Cindy as one of the gifts.  We wanted to include some ride and potluck pictures so it isn't too late to send your pictures and stories to Julie so they can be included in the book.

There has been some confusion -the ride start and potluck is at my home not the park -  the ride listing states Lakeshore Park because I don't want to use my actual address.  Please text me if you need my address.  I live next to the park so you can park on my street, the other streets on the island or along Lake Blvd and ride over.

I will be in front of my house if you'd like to drop off your potluck item before going to look for parking.  Ride sign-in sheets will be on a table and the restroom will be available too.

I could use a couple of folding tables and extra chairs.  If you can bring some please let me know.

If you want to come for the potluck and not the ride, plan for 11:30AM or so.  Wear a hat!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Lori Sommer

Cindy Maxwell, our longtime friend and ride leader is moving to Vegas in July!  Cindy came up with the idea of the LAP rides, was a Cinderella Ride Leader and always led interesting rides over the years to Rose Gardens, Labrynths, Pottery Shows and Chalk Art Shows.  We will miss her VERY much.  Come to the ride and the potluck to say goodbye. If you can't attend the ride and would just like to join the potluck that is fine too.

Let's give Cindy a good send off.  Please send me memories you have of Cindy and maybe a pic  of you with her.  Maybe you just want to say thank you!  Please email me (with Cindy as the subject line) and we can put it all together as a going away gift to her.  If you'd like to make a small donation towards a gift please give it to me, Randy or Julie in an envelope.  I will also bring a card and donation envelope to the Thursday rides.

Please fill out this google document (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WSdxjRsTRRWvvpyzGONLN5K-iH-ZinYI1pswM3nxQeU/edit?usp=sharing) or send me your potluck item and I can fill it in for you so we don't have 30 drinks and no food. Thanks.

Meet at 9:00AM in Newark.  Please park on Channel Drive, the other side of the tennis courts or at Lakeshore Park.  We will start the ride from my house.  You can drop off your potluck item and use the restroom too.  Please text me for the address.

Ken will come up with a route and lead the ride and Julie will sweep.  We will post it ahead of time so check back.  There won't be a mid-ride coffee stop so bring a snack.

Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or call me.
