Meet at the parking lot at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge (at the end of Marshlands Road) and we will head across the bridge to various destinations.

Although we will be riding across the bay, the specific route for this second Thursday of the month repeating ride will be posted here (with an attachment for you to print) as well as to the FFBC email groups (https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics ) once it is selected.  This is usually done a day or maybe two days before the ride.  Sometimes we ride without route sheets so we regroup as necessary and no one is left behind.

For a flat ride we head through East Palo Alto and along a few paths to Shoreline Park for lunch or along the creek with a bit of shade. For a ride with climbing, we do Woodside Road, Sand Hill/Whisky Hill, Alpine Loop, Arastradero or Edgewood Road. Sometimes the climbing is optional. We always stop for coffee ($) and riders are welcome to head back on their own.

Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction, rain, poor air quality or the whim of the ride leader may modify or cancel the route. Check here for updates: info@ffbc.groups.io

Thursday Morning Coffee Ride - REI to Alum Rock (Jose Higuera Adobe with Shortcuts!)
WhenThu, 6 January, 09:30 – 13:30
WhereREI, 43962 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538, USA (map)
DescriptionLength: 34 miles (with shortcuts of -17mi, -7mi, -5mi, -3mi)
Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M

Since REI isn't open, please use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the more familiar Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.

We are riding to Alum Rock along the beautiful foothills. This is a route with lots of flexibility -  to push yourself or take it easy and stretch your legs - whichever you like. I've updated the regroup point to Jose Higuera Adobe at mile 6.  Take Shortcut 1 directly to coffee and cut your mileage by 17.  Shortcut 2 cuts out 7 miles if you choose to ride to the park entrance (restrooms) then turn around..  Or you may go directly to the set of restrooms at the Youth Center and cut out 5 miles and significant climbing using Shortcut 3.  You may continue on the route, decide to skip Miguelito and only do Inspiration Loop (Shortcut 4, -3miles) or you may be in great shape and do the whole 34miles!  Please review the route sheet in advance and be prepared to follow your plan as I won't be chasing anyone down.  Better yet, find a friend with the same plan and stick together. Let me know if you have any questions. No one left behind.

If you want to do climbing, consider turning around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.

We will have lunch at Starbucks/Noah's Bagels ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.

Here's the route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36509921 Please print the attached cue sheet and put my cell number in your phone in advance.

DISCLAIMERS:
This is a no drop ride but the group can be on the larger side and will break up as we progress along the route especially as it is a T/M ride.  Riders are expected to be proficient in following their route sheet or using their GPS in case they are separated. We will wait at regroups for all riders.

Extreme temperatures, poor air quality, park closure, construction, rain and/or high winds,  or the whim of the ride leader may modify or cancel the route. Check here for updates: info@ffbc.groups.io.

Short Notice Ride: Portola Valley Hills

Barry

If you are interested in doing the route that was cancelled on Tuesday, a few of us from the Tuesday M pace crew are going to give it another try on Thursday.

Length: 38 miles; Elevation: 2060 feet;
Terrain: 3,4 Pace: M,M+

Description: Meet at 9:00 am for a 9:15 am start. This "Tour de Hills" ride has been rained out three times on Tuesdays, so let's try it on a Thursday.

Meet at the base of the Dumbarton Bridge at the end of Marshlands Road and enjoy some of Portola Valley's hills. We will beta test a few new roads so, if there are surprises, we'll adjust the route as we go.

We'll ride at an M pace sometimes and an M+ or faster pace at others. Riders who want to go faster are welcome to ride ahead and wait at the regroups.

This ride features a steep, extended, 14% grade with some spectacular scenery. To skip the steepest part of the climb, go straight on Alpine instead of turning on Golden Oak, then wait on Alpine next to Roberts Market to rejoin the group as it rides by.

Tuesday Hills Cancelled

At 6:15 the future radar showed showers finishing by 9, but now it shows showers until 10:45.  The ride is now a show and go.

CCRS #1 Ride start time change for this Saturday, Jan 8

Brisk Pace PRS #1 Ride This Sunday (tomorrow)

Happy New Year to all and we are getting a break from the rain.  I’ll be leading our first PRS ride of 2022 tomorrow.

Please note the brisk group ride meets at and starts from Sunol (Main Street) at 9am and roll at 9:15am (different from the M group).  Once we are at Dublin, the route is going to be similar to the M group except without coffee stop.  This is going to be a No-Drop Ride.  However, participants are expected to be sufficient in handling minor mechanical issues.

Please go to the club ride calendar and download the route.  No cue sheet will be handed out.  See you at Sunol tomorrow.

Yikes - although the link in the earlier message had the correct ridewithgps number shown, it was actually sending you to the old route up Kilkare.  I've corrected it on the calendar and here it is below.  Sorry for the confusion.  Thanks, Ken.
