Hello FFBC-
This Saturday, Mike Brasseur and I will lead the 1st Saturday of the Month ride. We will start in downtown Niles and ride out to Alum Rock Park once again, as Calaveras is still closed to traffic. (The most recent news we have heard about Calaveras is that it will open at the end of September.)
I hope you can join us!

EARLY START - TMCR
Lori Sommer
Hi, Just a reminder that we will be meeting for the Thursday Morning Coffee Rides at 8:30AM for the summer and rolling out at 8:45AM. See you bright and early. Just text me and join us on the route if you stay up too late tonight! Lori Thursday, July 5 WhenThu, July 5, 8:30am – 12:30pm WhereREI, 43962 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538, USA (map) DescriptionLength: 34 miles Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M Early start to beat the summer heat! Meet at 8:30 for an 8:45 start. We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas. We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own. We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbuck Extre Lori Sommer: lorimso

Thank you to the BEST bike club ever!
FFBC Friends,
Thank you to everyone who attended, wish they could have attended and/or contributed towards last week's Ride & Bon Voyage Party for me (aka the Thursday Coffee Ride). The party was so much fun and I was overwhelmed with all the laughter, well wishes and hugs! I can guarantee that those bike clubs in Las Vegas don't have a chance of being as friendly, encouraging and fun to ride with as my treasured FFBC has been. I will miss you all tremendously. Fortunately, I will still be around for a few more FFBC rides before I leave August 15. A huge thank you to Lori, my cycling mentor, supporter and friend, who opened up her home to us all, for the Bon Voyage party last week. Lori also coordinated all the party details and recruited lots of helpers: Ken Goldman led the bike ride, Molly Michelfelder, Randy Fewel and Nancy Oh helped with the party set-up at Lori's house, Becky Smith took great photos and posted them on FB, Becky Denevan got the cake, Randy Fewel and Meghan (Denevan) very creatively decorated it, Julie Fuller, I understand, has a present from club members to give to me, and the construction worker/former HS coach volunteered to take the group photo. If I forgot anyone, and I'm sure I did, please let me know. Thanks to FFBC, I am a better person in so many ways and I have ton of happy memories from the many rides and special events I've shared with you all. Thanks again for the fabulous send-off last week. See you soon! Cindy

Privacy settings on Strava...
Given the recent unfortunate event occurring to Jon Graff, I suggest that everyone posting rides on Strava review their individual privacy settings. I remembered reading that Strava had privacy zones. So I checked it out and changed my privacy setting. Under Profile, Settings, Privacy, you can create a privacy zone round your home whereby Strava will not reflect the start or finish of a ride at your home. Given we all ride bicycles that are near and dear to our hearts, keeping private the start location seems to be a good idea. Lord knows, we don't want to provide a road map to where our bikes are stored to a would be thief. If you have a question and cannot find where to make the change, please e-mail me and I will see if I can help. Jay Gilson

LAST CALL - Cindy’s Ride And Potluck (Cindy delete this message)
Lori Sommer
FFBC Members (except for Cindy!), Thursday is the Bon Voyage Ride and Potluck for Cindy. There are 25 RSVP's so far on the Google document. It isn't too late! Please use this link (https://docs.g You can text me before Wednesday at 5PM if you'd like to make a small donation towards a gift card and photo book. I will add the money for you and then you can reimburse me at the potluck and sign the card. Julie Fuller (luv2hikejulie@...) is putting together a photo book for Cindy as one of the gifts. We wanted to include some ride and potluck pictures so it isn't too late to send your pictures and stories to Julie so they can be included in the book. There has been some confusion -the ride start and potluck is at my home not the park - the ride listing states Lakeshore Park because I don't want to use my actual address. Please text me if you need my address. I live next to the park so you can park on my street, the other streets on the island or along Lake Blvd and ride over. I will be in front of my house if you'd like to drop off your potluck item before going to look for parking. Ride sign-in sheets will be on a table and the restroom will be available too. I could use a couple of folding tables and extra chairs. If you can bring some please let me know. If you want to come for the potluck and not the ride, plan for 11:30AM or so. Wear a hat! Let me know if you have any questions. Lori Sommer WhereLakeshore Park, Newark, CA 94560, USA (map) DescriptionLength: 20 Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M Cindy Maxwell, our longtime friend and ride leader is moving to Vegas in July! Cindy came up with the idea of the LAP rides, was a Cinderella Ride Leader and always led interesting rides over the years to Rose Gardens, Labrynths, Pottery Shows and Chalk Art Shows. We will miss her VERY much. Come to the ride and the potluck to say goodbye. If you can't attend the ride and would just like to join the potluck that is fine too. Let's give Cindy a good send off. Please send me memories you have of Cindy and maybe a pic of you with her. Maybe you just want to say thank you! Please email me (with Cindy as the subject line) and we can put it all together as a going away gift to her. If you'd like to make a small donation towards a gift please give it to me, Randy or Julie in an envelope. I will also bring a card and donation envelope to the Thursday rides. Please fill out this google document (https://docs.g Meet at 9:00AM in Newark. Please park on Channel Drive, the other side of the tennis courts or at Lakeshore Park. We will start the ride from my house. You can drop off your potluck item and use the restroom too. Please text me for the address. Ken will come up with a route and lead the ride and Julie will sweep. We will post it ahead of time so check back. There won't be a mid-ride coffee stop so bring a snack. Extreme temperatures, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://f Lori Sommer lorimsommer@gma
