Re: Peloton-style vs. Smart trainers?
Joyce Tanaka
Hey Mike Good to hear from you. I just bought and am using my new indoor Keiser.com bike. It’s $2,000 and received it in four days. You have an option of using other software like Zwift etc for $14/mo. I set it up myself using their tool kit which is $50 Thanks 😉 he bike is super quiet and well designed. I love it! You can check it out https://www.keiser.com/ Keep on pedaling 😀 Joyce

Peloton-style vs. Smart trainers?
Mike Moore
Hi everybody! As we are fond of saying in Reno, winter is coming. (That’s pretty catchy!). I am still trying to get back in shape after last year’s calamity so I am considering buying an indoor trainer. So I would love to get the opinions (and I know you have them) on these questions:
1. Is it better to buy a Peloton-style or Smart trainer and if so, why? 2. If you’ve experience with a smart trainer, which one would you recommend and how easy is it to set up and get going? What ancillary purchases are desirable? 3. What do you wish you knew before you purchased one of these machines? From what little I know, there probably isn’t a single correct answer for every situation and individual preference which is why I would hoping to draw upon the collective wisdom of the club. In advance, thanks!! Safe riding and happy trails to all of you! Mike

Re: Pot hole on Calaveras Road
Nick Laszlo
Mike et al, that giant pothole has been there for months. I reported it to the Public Works dept, but they appear to have higher priorities than protecting the welfare of cyclists, so we must all remain ever vigilant of such dangers, or move to France, as I’m planning to do. 😉

Pot hole on Calaveras Road
mbrasseur00
Louis and I rode down Calaveras Rd from the Wall to Piedmont/Evans Road today. There was a very nasty pothole in the road right at Downing Rd. Please be aware and careful at that junction because it can cause some severe problems if you were to hit it.

Portola Rd closure
mbrasseur00
I was on Portola Road in Portola Valley today and there was a sign indicating that Portola Road will be closed on 8/4/2020. Might be good to avoid on that day.

Re: Piedmont Road Repaving Project

BTW Ken Goldman kindly pointed out that that intersection is on Evans Rd, not Piedmont. Evans changes to Piedmont at Calaveras Blvd, south of Old Calaveras (as I'm sure many of you know). So yeah, even less likely they'll get rid of that Stop sign :P

Maybe they will also take out that silly stop sign at Old Calaveras. Not holding my breath though.

Need Avocet computer magnet hub ring
Wynn
Thought I was all done with vintage Avocet computers so I donated everything. A friend just gave me a very old Avocet computer without the magnet hub ring, and pickup holder.
Does anybody have one lying around? Wynn

Balance Bicycles
Along the lines of my other post, I have two balance bikes that are not getting any mileage. One has 12" wheels and the other 16" wheels. These are free. If you know of a wee one that can use these let me know. These are good for learning to steer and balance without having training wheels. Each one has a hand brake. If nobody takes these they'll be donated.

Re: Strange red light
Gabriel Beddingfield
I didn't notice any new paint. It's directly over the center lane of a 3-lane road... so it makes no sense for a light in that position to have anything to do with cycling. We looked at the signal stationed at the right lane (near the crosswalk), and it didn't have a bicycle. It was a normal red light.

Was there any new paint on the ground to go with it? https://nacto.org/publication/urban-bikeway-design-guide/bicycle-signals/bicycle-signal-heads/

Strange red light

Saw a red light with a bicycle image at the intersection of Ardenwood and 84. Is this an accident or is it trying to tell me something?
