The route is changed slightly from last year after coffee.  Similar to last year, we do take Walnut Ave on the way back to the start at Fremont BART and we can try the newly completed raised bike lanes.  Then you can have an opinion at the FFBC Club Meeting next Tuesday (if you don't have one already).

Save the Date/Reminder - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello,

Two things:
Save the date - Thursday, March 19.   I waited to post a ride for that day thinking that our friend, Cindy Maxwell, would be joining us and wanted to pick a route she was comfortable with.  Alas, I'm disappointed to find her plans will likely be canceled.  Instead we will do an amazing ride that we previewed yesterday: Ken's Two Bridges - Golden Gate and Richmond San Rafael.  I have to say it was the best ride I've done in years.  So much FUN! More details will be posted on the calendar as soon as we get the details together. Put it on your schedule now so you don't have FOMO - fear of missing out.

Tomorrow we are supposed to do Alum Rock...but I could be persuaded to go up to Ed Levin and/or Sandy Wool with faster riders having a option to do The Wall if riders want a change of scenery.  See you tomorrow, 9:30 at REI.

DescriptionLength: 34 miles Terrain: 2, 3; Pace: T, M We are riding to Alum Rock. Since REI isn't open use the facilities at Starbucks or wait until we reach the Jose Higuera Adobe in Milpitas.  We will ride along the foothills and once we get into the park, there are options to head straight to the Visitor's Center or climb the Inspiration Loop and/or Miguelita Road. Also, you don't have to go all the way to the park...you can turn early to coffee to reduce milage significantly. If you are a slow climber, but want to do the extra climbing, please be considerate of the group and turn around when you see the faster riders returning OR bring yourself to coffee on your own.  We will have lunch at Noah's Bagels/Starbucks ($) before heading back on a flat route, with no regroups.  Extreme temperatures, park closure, construction or the whim of the ride leader may modify the route. Rain cancels, check https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics, email or text me.  Lori Sommer: lorimsommer@..., 510-693-8624

The Cafe is usually open with restrooms, food and water, but sometimes it is closed. (The nearby CDF Sweetwater station has a public restroom and furnishes water for riders on weekends.) Route - Thursday Morning Coffee Ride

Lori Sommer

Hello Coffee Riders,

I've had a request for a coffee stop at Panama Red for tomorrow.  The planned route is 30miles and about 1,000' which takes us from Sunol, up Foothill and Pleasanton Sunol-Road, through Ruby Hills and into "Tuscany".  If we are not allowed access through Ruby Hills, we can continue to Vallecitos and access "Tuscany" via E. Vineyard then do an out and back. The route sheet for the planned route is attached.

I hope to see you tomorrow for a sunny ride.

This week the route starts from the gravel lot across from the Sunol Train Station.

There are lots of places we can go and sometimes a portion of the climbing is optional and mileage can be reduced. Our favorite destinations include the Corner Bakery or Peet's via Kilkare, the water tower and Bernal Bump or maybe out to Panama Red Coffee in Livermore by way of Sycamore Grove/Holdener Park or the climbs out by Signal Hill and the fun descent on Croak Road with lunch at Panera in Livermore. Another favorite is Denica's in Dublin via Windemere. Bring $ for coffee or lunch.

LAS #4 - Route sheet

Lori Sommer

Good Afternoon ,

I know there are lots of ride options this Sunday but we'd love to have you join us for some beautiful scenery on LAS #4!  The route sheet is attached.  Please print it and bring it to the ride.  The route sheet is also attached as a PDF to the FFBC Ride Calendar posting under "more details".

We are heading to Calaveras (clockwise loop) with an optional trip to view the backside of the reservoir on Marsh Rd.  We have some members not wanting to ride through Niles Canyon.  If that is your situation, meet us in Sunol at our first restroom break.  Then you can do an out and back to The Wall/Marsh or arrange with someone to drive you to your car at the end of the ride.  As always, this is a no drop ride.  Slow climbers are welcome and encouraged!

If you are driving to the start, please read the special parking instructions below.

Thanks,

Lori

Let's explore! Some of us haven't been on Calaveras for a while and also haven't seen the promised very nice view from Marsh Road.

We will head through Niles Canyon early and make a pit stop in Sunol. Calaveras will be climbed in the clockwise direction and after descending The Wall, we will start up Felter Rd, but only to Marsh Rd. Marsh is a 4 mile out and back. We will stop at Starbucks in Milpitas for a break before heading back to Fremont using a mostly flat route. You can skip Felter and Marsh and reduce your mileage by 5 and your elevation by 400'.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29019176

We will send out PDF versions of our ridewithgps.com route sheet  via email to FFBC’s https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics a few days before each ride. We ask that you print and bring it to the ride. The link to the route on ridewithgps is available for downloading and will have listed regroups for LAS #4.

We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph) on the flats. Slower climbers are welcome.  No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to https://ffbc.groups.io/g/info/topics by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email means the ride is on). If you are unsure of the ride status, call or text ride leader on the morning of the ride.

In order to be good neighbors with the Niles Merchant Assoc. and not interfere with their customer parking, FFBC has agreed to park in different areas depending on the time of the week.
