Rescheduled for Monday! LAP 5 - Tunnel Road

Lori Sommer

The sun will come out today but we (ok, mostly me but some of the ride leaders too) are still concerned enough with steep, wet descents that we will reschedule the ride for tomorrow, Monday. I apologize to everyone that is inconvenienced, that have to work tomorrow and won’t be able to ride. As a ride leader I always err on the side of caution and safety.

Ken is rechecked the BART schedules and these are our new trains:
8:14-8:59. Ken’s train
8:34-9:19 Lori and Vicki’s train
BART parking is still free since it is a holiday.

Hope to see you tomorrow !

The sun will come out tomorrow or so the lyrics go.  I sure hope so.  If the forecast changes overnight, we will cancel by 7AM.  If so, we will reschedule to Monday.  You know the drill.

The plan is for Ken to head out on the first train at 8:03AM and Vicki and I will take the second one at 8:23AM.  Ken and I will have sign-in sheets on the train and I will bring a few extra route sheets incase someone's printer isn't working.  The latest version of the route sheet is attached (with updated BART times and cosmetic changes).

We will start riding from the Rockridge BART Station in Oakland, rolling by 9:30AM Sunday morning.

Most of us will take BART from Fremont to Rockridge.

If you are coming from a different station, you will need to be on a train that arrives at Rockridge by 9:10AM.

If you drive to Rockridge, you will need to take BART back after the ride since we will finish the ride in Fremont.

Lori, Ken and Vicki will be on the following trains:

Leave Fremont 8:03AM    Arrive Rockridge 8:49AM

Leave Fremont 8:23AM   Arrive Rockridge 9:08AM

Both trains require a transfer at 19th Street station in Oakland—get off the train and walk straight across the platform to board an Antioch Train.

You might want to use the restroom in the Rockridge station and then we will meet and sign everybody in outside-on the south side of the station.

A clarification regarding LAP route sheets - the official route sheet is ATTACHED to this email and should be printed and brought to the ride. This beautiful pdf has all our official regroups and route modifications!  The route sheet generated using this ridewithgps link:

WhenSun, February 17, 9:00am – 2:30pm
DescriptionThis ride was rained out on 2/3.  We are rescheduling it to 2/17.  If it is rained out, we may again reschedule it for 2/18 as it is a holiday (for some).

MILEAGE 39 (24)
ELEVATION GAIN: 2549' (2200’)

TIME: 9:00AM at Rockridge
RIDE START: Rockridge BART, 5660 College Ave, Oakland (ground level, South side, near Keith Avenue)

We are bringing this back from Ken and Dale's Excellent Adventure Series. We will start at the Fremont BART station and ride the trains to the Rockridge BART
Station in Oakland (or you can join us there).

Riders will meet at the Fremont BART station. The BART fare is $5.10 one-way.  We will catch the 8:23AM Richmond train, transfer at the 19th St. Station to an Antioch train and arrive at the Rockridge station at 9:08AM. There is an earlier train leaving Fremont at 8:03 AM that arrives at 8:49AM. Meet at ground level, outside on the South side of the station, near Keith Avenue.

At 9:30AM, we will hop on our bikes and cycle back to Fremont. From
the Rockridge BART station, we will first head up Old Tunnel Road and make a quick stop at the Oakland Hills Fire Memorial Park, then go up and over the Caldecott Tunnel. Ifthere’s no fog, the views will be spectacular. We will continue south along Skyline and
descend Redwood Road with a stop in Castro Valley for lunch/coffee. Afterwards we will have a "mostly" flat ride home.  If you want to cut 15 miles off after lunch, there is an option to get on BART in Castro Valley.

PDF versions of our Excel route sheets will be sent out via email to FFBC’s a few days before each ride. We ask that you print and bring it to the ride. The link to the route on is available for downloading but any route sheet generated from the link is for information only and does not have listed regroups.

We will maintain a Touring through Moderate pace (10 to 16 mph). No drops and regroups as needed. Extreme weather or construction may modify the route and rain cancels. A ride cancellation email will be sent to by the ride leader on the morning of the ride if it is being cancelled (no email means the ride is on). If you are unsure of the ride status, call or text ride leader on the morning of the ride.
